| kparsons13's Full Review: DAP Beats The Nail All Purpose Construction Adhesi... |
When my roommate moved out unexpectedly to me and my fiancé, a complete mess was left behind to clean up. The room was covered in stains on the carpet, dust on the walls, and closet door broken. What upset me the most was the condition in the bath room. The shower was broken and then I looked down at my linoleum and it had come up completely off of the floor from the tub and around the toilet. She had never let us know that it occurred and it was a mess.
So I set out to clean up the mess that she had left along with redoing the linoleum in the bathroom. My fiancé and I went to the local grocery store that has everything from furniture to food to hardware and came upon the adhesive section. I noticed the DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive: The All Purpose Household Repair Adhesive in a tube. It also came in a tube for a caulking gun, but I wanted to start out with a tube to see if the stuff even worked. We were pretty low in budget at the time and the tube only cost $2.97 on sale so we bought it.
I decided to take this project on myself and make this bathroom right. I had spent nearly three days cleaning up the bedroom and I thought by possibly doing the bathroom, I would have some closure to this mess. I called my father who is Mr. Carpenter and has brought me up to be pretty handy-dandy myself and asked for advice. Since it was in the bathroom and on the floor, he recommended that I let the area dry and after a few days, blow dry it so it was completely dry before applying the adhesive. It was killing me inside to wait that long, but father always knows best.
In the meantime while I was waiting patiently for things to dry and my temper to cool down, I read the tube. What caught my eye at the store was the diagram of the inside of the house on the front of the tube of DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive. It showed with little arrows all the places where the adhesive could possibly be used like the linoleum. The DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive claimed to work on all sorts of surfaces like wood, ceramic, metal, and polystyrene/urethane foams. (Taken from tube) It was for those speedy jobs that needed immediate attention such as mine. There was low odor to the adhesive and was a non-flammable formula with latex based. (taken from tube)
There were WARNINGS though that I was told to read on the back and I also needed to address the directions before diving into anything. The following was taken from the tube:
Warning: Contains Ethanol. May cause eye, skin, nose, and throat irritation. Use in well ventilated area. Provide fresh air such that chemical odors can not be detected during use and while drying. Avoid skin contact.
First Aid:
Skin contact: Wash with Soap and water
Eye contact: Flood with large quantities of water for 15 minutes. Contact physician immediately.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Contact physician immediately.
Indigestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Contact physician or Regional Poison Control Center immediately.
Keep out of Reach of Children
There were a lot of warnings and I started thinking maybe I should have bought something else or maybe I should leave this up to my fiancé. Then the tomboy in me kicked in and decided that I could do this all by myself.
After the long awaited day to start this small fix it job, I was ready. The Tube of DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive came in 3.5 fl oz (103.5 ml). All you need to do is take off the pointed cap and then cut at the point to allow adhesive to come out. It was fairly simple to do and understand. Then the directions came into play
Directions: 1. Evenly apply bead to clean, dry surface area. 2. Fasten or brace the material to hold in place for 24 hours to insure secure bond.
There were also some application tips and advice on the clean up when you were done listed on the tube.
So I lifted up the linoleum out of the way and put down a long bead of DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive and put the linoleum back in its place with a stack of hard covered books I had to secure the hold. I followed that process around the tub and toilet and had just enough to finish the job. Everything was secure with books I was headed off to do another project. It was that simple. I did wear gloves by the way in order to avoid the skin contact and I highly suggest you do the same. I wear glasses regularly so I was not as concerned with getting it directly into my eyes.
The following day at exactly 24 hours later, I lifted my books and found that some of the linoleum had been secured and a couple areas it was not secure. I looked at those other areas and realized that whoever built my bathroom put linoleum over the linoleum which was ridiculous and lazy on their part. I am just fortunate enough that I live in an apartment and not a house.
So knowing this I cut out the old linoleum and placed the bead of DAP Beats the Nail Adhesivedown again and then secured the top linoleum with books. I left those parts alone for 24 hours and came back and they were secure. The bathroom floor was a safe place again and I was pleased with my handy-dandy work. All it took was a little tube of DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive and a lot of patience.
I found that the DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive was easy to work with and came out through the tube like toothpaste, easy and leaving a stream/bead behind. It was comfortable to squeeze the tube and not having to use a caulking gun. I am glad that I chose the tube instead. For $2.97 the DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive definitely came through to finish the job for me and gave me enough information that I could do it on my own. I didnt need to bug my fiancé. In fact, he came home and I showed him and he was quite impressed.
There is a Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed by DAP for product replacement should the one you buy is defective in some way. The DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive has provided a water proofed linoleum that is secure and has not lifted since this project was done in February. I am quite pleased with the product as it has done what I had set out to accomplish. There was no mess, no fuss, and easy to use. I was able to do my project all by myself without having to bring in any professionals thanks to DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive. So if you are thinking of needing a water sealant strong bond, then you have found it with DAP Beats the Nail Adhesive.
