The Bottom Line 1. Do not start spam 2. Do not enter chats 3. Prevent spam e-mail on AOL by e-mailing the e-mail addresses listed.

Most of the AOL users out there have so much to do. You know, we have to check our e-mail, instant message all of our friends, check what is going on in the latest chat rooms, and send around cute poems we found on the internet. Am I right? Think about how many times you have sent a poem you found on the net to your neighbor. Then, think about how many people your neighbor might have sent that poem to. Gee, didn't we just start a little chain? Great, now everyone sees your screen name somewhere in the long list of forwards. This is how spam gets started.

In my review, I hope to inform you on many different ways of trying to prevent overflowing amounts of spam.

Spam in Chatrooms
Hey :-) How are you Twix109? :-) Would you like me to add you to a list of 8800 people to get FREE PORN?! :-) Yea!

Ergh, these people annoy all of us. They should wear signs that come right out and say "Free Spam, Free Spam, You come into the chat, you get it!"

Prevent yourself, you now know that people go into chatrooms to announce to the world they have free porn available, so just don't go into the chat. If you have friends, and want to chat with them, go into a Private Chatroom.

E-mail Spam
AOL is nice enough to offer a service where you can forward your spam to one of the following e-mail addresses:

If you receive an e-mail from outside the AOL domain forward the entire e-mail to Screen Name TOSSpam.

If you receive an e-mail from within the AOL domain forward the entire e-mail to Screen Name: TOSEmail1.

If you receive an e-mail with a suspicious attached file or inappropriate graphic, forward it to Screen Name TOSFiles.

This can take a step to stop spam. Also, in your Mail Controls, you can block people you do not want mail from, or you can accept e-mails from everyone, or who you want e-mails from.

Don't Start Spam
When you send around your favorite poem (etc.) on the net, and want to send it to someone, think twice. That person you are sending it to may also find it adorable and want to send it around to his/her friends. You're e-mail address may be on the forwards! Instead of sending it on e-mail, maybe you can print it out for them, tell them not to send it to anyone else, or tell it to them over the phone.

Remember not to open attached files/pictures/etc
Be very careful. Attached files (etc.) are very dangerous. Their are many files that can destroy your computer. Do NOT open any .EXE files.

Hope your mailbox stays spam free!
:-)
