Does not work as advertised

Written: Aug 18 '03 (Updated Aug 20 '03)
Pros:Somewhat sturdy, all metal construction.
Cons:Not easily moved and doesn't work as advertised.
The Bottom Line: Do not waste your time or money.

My yard backs up to a creek and I have a constant problem with mosquitos. I decided to try one of those backyard mosquito catchers. These catchers use a 20lb propane bottle and work by turning propane into carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitos. I bought the Lentek Mosquito Trap III for $200 from Target and hauled it home.

I might note that I had read the other review on the previous version of this catcher, but the store had good return policy, so I thought what the heck.

I found the all metal construction to be good. This is also a downfall because it makes it heavy and there are no wheels. After the 20lb propane bottle, you are looking at a very heavy and very bulky object to move. There are also a lot of little nuts, bolts, and washers to be put together.

After about 45 minutes, I plugged a fresh bottle of propane in and turned it on per instructions. I ran this thing for three days and only caught about 10 mosquitos for the whole weekend! I've had that many bite me in an hour! For the $200 this cost, I would rather have something else. (Although I've had good luck with the Coleman Mosquito Deleto Inhibitor (about $15).
