Pros:Genius Comedy, Good Enough for Kids? You bet
Cons:Are you kidding me, there are none?!
The Bottom Line: See Conclusion
Ok, ok . . . I know what you are all saying! What on earth am I talking about. The true Simpsons fan could easily cite this quotable reference. For the addict fans out there like me, we easily say , "Oh yeah, that was Episode #G364T92". Call me crazy or whatever you will but if you haven't seen this show yet and not laughed, you've most likely lived a terrible life.
The show debuted back in the middle to late 1980's as a cartoon animated family surnamed . . . well what do you think? The show was given its own 22 minute time slot after gaining recognition from the 30 second segments on the Tracey Ullman Show it was getting. After only a few episodes, the show was a hit. The show remained on for 5 - 6 years on its long but not forgotten timeslot of 8:00pm Thursday's on FOX.
Merchandise of the Simpsons exploded everywhere! Buttons, stickers, shorts, socks (How to Choose Simpsons Socks, coming to an Epinions near you!), and a whole bunch of other money wasters. I can imagine the sales of Bart Simpson standing on that podium saying "Don't Have a Cow Man!" made someone a millionaire. Man, those shirts were everywhere; of course I had one.
Main Characters of the Show
Homer:
Mr Simpson, father of 3 who works at a Nuclear Power Plant. A little ............... slow.
Marge:
Homer's wife, homemaker, tall blue hair
Bart:
10 year old child menace, son of Homer and Marge
Lisa:
Genius 8 year old child and Bart's brother
Maggie:
3 yr old pascifier sucking, Mr Burns attempted murdering Simpson child
These are basically the stars of the show that bring the many laughs every week. There are hundreds of characters on the show(which I will not describe because I plan on retiring soon) and also famous celebrities whom have guest starred and voiced themselves.
Who I think the Simpsons is for . . .
In my opinion, despite the recommended PG rating the show gets, I would recommend its debateable G rating. Although some of the content is a little harsh for the children and more appropriate for adult ears, I don't feel the show is enough to practically influence a child to carry these bad traits. What's worse? Bart spraypainting a wall with "El Barto" or the Flintstones character Bam Bam whacking Fred?" The Flintstones was always given a G rating and intended for the whole family; this PG rating is bloody ignorance.
Who would like the Simpsons . . .
In order to get the most out of the Simpsons, you must be paying close attention with your eyes. This is the type of show that will make you laugh with its hidden messages. For example, you will see Homer and Lisa talking on the couch and Homer will say "Aww . . . Lisa, cartoons dont have to be always perfect; cartoonists make mistakes all the time!" Then all of a sudden you will see Homer walk through the backyard. Umm .... Why aren't you laughing? :)
Each episode is worth a thousand laughs so listen carefully to each joke. Else you'll look like a fool when everyone is laughing their booties off.
Cool Stuff About the Show
1) Bart writes a new "I will not ..." line in the introduction of the show in detention
2) The introduction always ends up with the family running to the couch but something different always happens each time (explosion, Flintstones sitting on their couch, vicious dog gets up and growls at them to back up.
3) The Infamous "Who Shot Mr Burns" episode which in Las Vegas were taking odds.
4) When the cashier scans Maggie in the intorduction, the register registers NRA4EVR on the price.
Matt Groening, the creator, has geniusly created the top rated animated cartoon show EVER! Despite any idiotic PG rating that the show has, its content is decent enough for the whole family; parents just relax now, ahhhhh. Jokers for kids and jokes for adults. No one is disappointed.
The Simpsons is aired on the FOX Network at 8pm every Sunday! I suggest you take a gander at it if you haven't already been addicted.
