Pros: Price
Cons: Image quality
The Bottom Line: Do not buy as the image quality is very poor (so is the sound). Do not believe the sales claims or sample image on the box as they are deceptive.

| markstephen's Full Review: Legacy LM71 7" LCD Video Monitor LM71 |
I purchased a new Legacy LM 71 7 inch LCD monitor for use in an automobile. The price was approx. $117.00 from an eBay seller. It was new, not refurbished.
What attracted me to the purchase was the low price and endorsements by the seller (and all the other Legacy sellers on eBay).
I previously installed two Pyramid brand 7 inch monitors in the same vehicle and they work ok, but decided to try the Legacy brand to see if the image quality was any better than the Pyramid's. The Legacy would go in the front of the cabin and the Pyramids at the rear.
After correct installation the Legacy LM 71 demonstrated poor image quality compared to the Pyramids (which aren't that great to begin with). The Legacy revealed a cartoon-ish like image that could not be corrected with the controls. That is, the level of sharpness and/or contrast is dull, and an actor's skin color appears to be painted on, like a cartoon figure. For example, if an actor wore a black beard the beard would appear like black painted thick lines. The Pyramids'are acceptable and in the same example you can see some detail of the beard, although it is not comparable to an actual TFT LCD screen, like the type on most portable DVD players.
To see if my unit was defective I returned it to Legacy in Brooklyn N.Y. After paying for shipping both ways ($18.50) I got the Legacy back with a note from the service dept. which read: "I am sorry. This is the quality of the LCD monitor. Serv. Dept."
I find it hard to believe that electronic engineers actually worked on designing this unit and found it acceptable to market. (I am sure it could not be sold very well in a showroom, with demonstrations).
On a scale of 1-10 (1= excellent, 10=worthless), I would rate this Legacy a 9 (it does have some sound!).
If you are on a budget I would recommend saving your money for a higher quality unit with true TFT screen technology, or taking a chance on the Pyramids (careful: some have a settings save feature and others do not and there's no way to tell unless you install the monitor. Get the save feature and your picture settings remain, even with the power off. With the other version you'll have to adjust all picture settings each time you turn it on).
