Pros: It "only" took one month before it started working
Cons: It stopped working a few days after that and has worked sporadically ever since
The Bottom Line: If you are going to use verizon, look into it first and make sure that you understand everything that is written or implied in your contract.

| shqipta's Full Review: General Reviews of Verizon Customer Service |
When I first moved to Logan I decided to get a cell phone so that I could take it with me to work and always be able to get a hold of whoever I needed to. As I was walking through the mall I saw a stand giving out free phones if you sign up for their "free" long distance plan. I threw caution to the wind and bought the phone. The nice man at the stand said that it should be working within the hour. So I went out with my new cell phone and I couldn't wait until I could make my first call. I come from a small rural town, and then I lived in Belarus for a few years, so I had never used a cell phone.
The phone did not work that day, nor did it work the next. When I went back to see what happened they told me that the man who had signed me up had been fired and so even though my account had been activated and I would have to pay, they did not activate my phone. They said they would work on it, and asked me to leave the phone. Every day I called and they said they were working on it, at least they didn't make me pay for the time that they were working on it.
My phone finally started working, although every time I called anyone I had to practically yell in the phone so that they could hear me. When I got my bill I found that there was an extra charge of $5.99 for "free" long distance. It also cost for every minute of "free" long distance calling. I called the company and they said that they would take off the charge for that month because the guy that I got the phone from had been fired for lying to customers and telling them they got "free" services on their phone that they really didn't.
Before long the phone quit working. I took it in and they said it was the battery. So since they didn't have that battery in stock I had to wait for a week while they had one mailed to me. The one the mailed didn't work. Now I am waiting another week for another battery that may or may not work.
To add to my already not happy mood, I called verizon and asked if I could just cancel my plan. They tell me that it costs almost twice as much to cancel the service as is does just to keep it for a whole year, mostly because since my "free" phone doesn't work there is an extra $300 charge if I quit the service. Now I am just paying $40 a month to have no phone so that I can save money by not canceling.
The phone they gave me was a Audivox 120.
My plan supposedly came with 500 free weekend minutes, free voice mail, free wide-area calling(only 5.95 a month), and free long distance for life(also 5.95 a month).
My advice, let the buyer beware.
