Did you buy any of their subscription newsletters? I'm curious about the value of these very expensive items.

Thanks for the comments. I respect your point of view. And I agree with your point that the individual investor can run circles around the financial institutions. I'm always willing to learn more. I'll try to read " You Have More Than You Think".

The Motley Fool can be a very useful resource, if you look beyond the surface.

First off, we have to realize that yes, mistakes were made, most notably the Foolish Four (there were only four stocks, not Five). However, they did admit these mistakes, which I see as a positive thing.

Secondly, the books are incredibly useful AND important as a introduction to the Foolish Philosophy. The Motley Fool (TMF) firmly believes that every American should own stock. What's not to like in that? They not only show the average person how to identify successful companies, but also what to avoid (mutual funds, unresearched stock tips, high fee brokers, analysts' recommendations, etc.) Fools firmly believe that you CAN beat the "big guys" at their own game, since they have rules and restrictions placed on them that individual investors simply don't.

I could go on and on, but I've typed plenty already. I don't think you gave TMF a fair chance; you had some preconceptions that weren't immediately met, and thus you didn't like what you saw. Read "You Have More Than You Think" then give TMF another try. You may be surprised.

I'm familiar with Motley Fool, and being relatively new in the investment game, I have a hard time discerning what I should believe & what I shouldn't. Thank you for your well-written, objective epinion.
