| saleenadam's Full Review: Eureka Smart 4870DT Bagged Upright Vacuum |
I was in the market for a new vacuum and decided to check around for reviews of different models at this website and Consumer Reports. Turns out Consumer Reports had rated the previous years model the 4870 a Best Buy so I figured the new model 4870DT couldnt be too bad right? WRONG!!! Here is a list of the pros and cons of this vacuum, which for the record was returned to the store the day after purchase.
Pros This vacuum has good suction, a HEPA filter, and a wide cleaning track, well thats about it that I can think of.
Cons
1. Weight The weight of this vacuum is ridiculous, I like to use my vacuum to do the stairs without the use of a hose attachment, which is impossible with this model. To do the 16 stairs in my house with this would be an all day adventure as you lose youre breath just picking this thing up. The hose attachment is of no use because it only reaches the fourth stair and tips over if you try to place it on the others to move up.
2. Hose Problem The hose attachment hangs loosely and you will no doubt run over it with the vacuum when moving about the house. I ran it over at least 4 times in my living room alone, before giving up on it.
3. Suction Adjustment I could find no way to adjust the suction on this vacuum for doing things such as rugs in the house. There is a way to change the height of the carpet on the vacuum but no way to change the suction, try to vacuum a rug and it gets sucked right into the brush accompanied with a real nice burning smell
nice.
4. Owners Manual The owners manual is horrible, there is no real explanation of any of the controls or what they do. Luckily the one I got was already put together so I didnt have to do it from the owners manual. For instance, I wanted to know what the different carpet height adjustments could do for me or if there was a way of adjusting the suction, good luck trying to figure it out from the owners manual.
5. Handle The handle on this vacuum is horrible, you put youre hand inside of it and when accompanied by the ridiculous weight of the vacuum you have a nice callous on the hand within minutes.
6. Foot Lever The foot lever is very hard to press down in order to recline the vacuum, its a chore to get youre foot on it right in order to make it work.
7. Reclining The maximum reclining of this vacuum is about a 45 degree angle. Sometimes I get lazy and try to vacuum under tables without moving them; this isnt possible with this vacuum. It doesnt come anywhere near low enough to maneuver under things around the house.
8. Filter Air The air coming out of the air filter is like a fan, when you go around the house the drapes and curtains will fly all over the place from the whirlwind coming out of the air filter, if you have any dust around watch out for the sand storm!!
In closing, let me express my extreme dissappointment with Consumer Reports for rating this a best buy. I will have to pay much more of an watchful eye on their reviews before purchasing a product such as this, also i'm glad I got it from a store that refunded me with ease and not online.
