The Bottom Line One of the best concerts I've ever seen!

I had not written an Epinion in at least a couple of months - I've been busy! - but after seeing Erykah Badu's concert last night, I just had to write and share my thoughts with the Epinions community!

Erykah was WONDERFUL! Please forgive the superlatives that will surely follow in this Epinion, but I am trying to convey what a wonderful performance this woman gave!

I saw Erykah at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, Texas - a rundown, out-of-the-way kind of place which is actually also a real live bowling alley and video game arcade! Imagine that! The Bronco Bowl is a great place to see a concert, however (I also saw D'Angelo there), because you can see from just about every vantage point in the house. I knew we were in for a good show because Erykah is from Dallas and, as I'd imagined, she had family and friends in the audience.

I'll just break the performance down into categories of what made it so remarkable, as opposed to giving a play-by-play of the show, so as not to ruin it for those of you who plan to see her. Those factors which made the show outstanding:

ERYKAH'S VOICE:

I was literally blown away by the power in Erykah Badu's voice! She is the most petite person, yet she has the lungs of a 200 lb. opera singer ticked away inside of her! Neither one of her CD's gives Erykah's live voice its just due; she is a true powerhouse. There are several uptempo songs, for example, Penitentiary Philosophy, where Erykah just gets DOWN (there is no other way to put it!), and any fan of vocals and/or vocalists will go crazy! Also, on ballads like, "A.D. 2000," one can really appreciate the range of Erykah Badu's voice! Incredible!

THE BAND:

The band was amazing, and any fan of Erykah's knows she has some really rocking beats, especially on the new album! It was great to hear this music performed live, and I just had to get up and dance several times!

THE SHOW:

The show was really entertaining. Not a high-budget performance at all (no rising stages here), but really well put together. Erykah sang, she danced, and she had plenty of surprises for the audience! Erykah also has a great sense of humor which came through during many parts of the show. For example, she took the background lyrics from her song, "Tyrone," in which the background singers sing, "Call him!," and replaced that phrase with little stories like " . . . and your hair was done . . . but if I do my job right, and you're up and dancing, then your hair will have . . . FALLEN!," and many other stories - none of which I will do justice trying to put them in writing.

THE SONGS:

Erykah's beautiful voice was paired with the fact that she has some really amazing songs: "Clever," "A.D. 2000," "Penitentiary Philosophy, "Bag Lady," and the list goes on and on. It was wonderful to know all the words but still want to stay quiet just so you could hear her beautiful voice shine through.

Bravo, bravo, bravissimo!
