| Dionne25's Full Review: Aroma 10 Cup Rice Cooker Teflon Coating |
Before I go on to tell you about this lovely product, it's important for you to know that getting here was not an easy task. I couldn't find this product anywhere on Epinions and the closest match was the ARC-837. I thought, "What could possibly go wrong?"
Apparently everything!!! After seeing that my review was "Off-Topic" and the overall rating was "Not Helpful", I was distraught. Thank goodness for my best friend and Super-Sleuth Candice923, she helped me find the right home for my Epinion.
And now for the review...
Last December, Chris's dad, a pilot for Northwest Airlines, had layover in Alaska and he spent the day with us. It was the first time I got to meet him and for the day, Chris and I showed him around town.
We made our way to Costco, and he insisted on buying us Christmas gifts (he already brought some gifts with him on his trip), but we did not object. One of the items he bought for us was the Aroma 10 Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer Teflon Coating ARC-830 In the box, you get a rice cooker; measuring cup specifically designed for the ARC-830; serving spoon; and recipes from world-known chef Martin Yan.
When we finally got the chance to use the rice cooker, I was a little apprehensive; but then again, Im like that sometimes with new toys. The instructions are rather simple and anyone can use this cooker. It cooks up to 10 cups of rice and you decide how much you want to cook depending on the size of your family and such. Since there are only two of us, I started out by making only 2 cups of rice. Chris loves Basmati Rice and he got me hooked on it. The grains are a little longer than normal rice and it's also healthier, but I may be going off topic, so let me get back to reality.
As I stated, the instructions are rather simple. For two cups of rice, for instance, you use the measuring cup and scoop out two cups of rice in the silver teflon cooking bowl; wash 2-3 times (or however many times you wash your rice); and fill the measuring cup with 2 ½ cups of water (the water should reach the "2" line). I usually add salt and butter to the rice so that its seasoned while its cooking, but seasoning is up to you. When you plug in the cooker, the Cook light will be illuminated, but its not cooking. You have to push the little button down for it to start cooking. For such a small amount of rice, it takes about 20-25 minutes to cook and it usually makes 4 cups of rice. Once the rice is done the light will switch from Cook to Warm and you can leave the rice in the cooker for up to 4 hours. If you want to make more rice, you follow the same pattern: 3 cups of raw rice cooks 6 cups; 4 cups of raw rice cooks 8 cups, etc.
I was blown away. The rice was cooked to perfection and it tasted great. Oh, I almost forgot! On the side of the cooker is a little clear cup that catches the water from the steam each time you open the lid (I think its really cool). Clean up is a cinch and when youre done; you simply unplug the cooker until youre ready to make more rice. I found my new buddy in the kitchen and I use this rice cooker religiously. You can also steam fresh vegetables while cooking rice in the steamer that comes with the cooker. I have yet to try this, but plan to very soon.
When we moved to Prince Edward Island, we made sure that we did not leave the rice cooker behind. Unlike the FoodSaver this was a gift from Chriss dad and we were not about to part with it. Ive used it since Ive been here and Chriss mom absolutely loves it. I think were going to have to get her one because were taking the rice cooker with us when we move into our place.
Now for some other important stuff that you may or may not find interesting. The rice cooker comes with a one-year limited warranty and if youve lost or misplaced any of the accessories, call the Customer Service line and they will replace it for you. One more factor that I feel is of importance: Its in your best interest to use the measuring cup provided when measuring the rice. It says in bold text not to use any other measuring utensils; if the measuring cup or any other accessory is missing, call and have them replace it. I misplaced the measuring cup once and figured I could use any old measuring cup for the rice. Not only did the rice turn out both hard and sticky, but also I put in too much rice and it overflowed. Luckily, I found the measuring cup and its been smooth sailing ever since.
What can I say? I love the Aroma Aroma 10 Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer Teflon Coating ARC-830. If you have a friend or neighbor who has one, stop in and visit them just to taste their rice. Its sure to be a topic of discussion.
I hope you all enjoyed reading this Epinion. It was a long journey getting here, but alas, the ARC-830 has found its rightful home. Unfortunately, I've been informed that Aroma does not make this model any longer (which is probably why I got it at Costco). But I really like this rice cooker and it does a fabulous job.
Until next time
