Paper Handling:
Pros:Very inexpensive, good print quality for the price. Separate color cartridges.
Cons:Multiple paper jams, Regularly picks multiple/all paper from tray.
The Bottom Line: Spend the extra money and get a printer that you won't be fighting with for years to come
Last Christmas, I decided to give my 12 year old sister in law my old computer. Since it had a word processor loaded, we figured we should also get her a printer. As then she could use it for writing reports at school. So off we went to find a cheap printer, and when we got to Future Shop, out screamed the Xerox Docuprint C6, with its low price and interesting features.
The printer did not look that bad. It has a rear loading paper tray, with a fairly straight through design. Another option is has, which probably sold us the most, was the fact it has separate color cartridges. With this, when you run out of one color, you only have to purchase a low priced tank of that color. You don't have to replace all colors, as with many other printers, including my HP Deskjet 832C. Things were looking good.
After purchasing this printer, I learned 2 things:
1) Mail-in rebates aren't all their cracked up to be
2) You get what you pay for
The price advertised was $30 Cdn (Probably $15-20 US). It was $70 Cdn, with a $40 Mail-in rebate coupon. With that you have to pay taxes on the full amount, then send in your rebate coupon and hope you get some money back. It has been 6 months now since I sent it in and still no check.
The other thing I learned is you get what you pay for. You buy a printer for $70 and it will act like a printer worth $70. Right after I got the printer out of the box, I noticed the print quality was not up to par with many printers in the $100-200 range. Then it started jamming. This printer is prone to paper jam often. I believe the separation pad and pickup rollers are also of cheap quality, as I have heard from many people who bought this product who are suffering the same fate.
So I guess the deal is, if you want an inexpensive printer and don't mind unclogging your printer occasionally, this is a good printer for you. If this is not your thing, spend the extra money and get something that is worthwhile.
