| nfuerst's Full Review: Sony Digital Photo Printer DPP-EX5 Dye Sublimatio... |
I was a bit skeptical when I purchased this printer, as my previous "photo" ink jet printer left quite a lot to be desired. However, I had read the reviews of the Sony printer on this site and several others, so I felt I had enough information and decided to make the purchase.
I got the printer home last night and took about 5 minutes to get it setup and connected to my PC. The drivers installed on my XP Pro machine with no problem. When I connected the printer to the computer, plug-and-play worked as expected; it recognized and configured the printer effortlessly.
I immediately tried to print a few photos. One from a digital camera that a family member emailed me and several that I scanned in on my HP scanner. I swear that you cannot tell that the photos came from a home PC. The flesh tones are perfect. The colors, shading and contrast look as good as a 35mm photo.
As I noted in the Cons, there were a couple of items that caught me by surprise. The printer does not include a starter pack of paper. I was glad that I had purchased the 75-print pack of paper and cartridges when I bought the printer; otherwise I would not have been able to print last night. Also, the printer does not include the USB device cable to connect it to the PC. Again, I am glad that I had an extra one lying around the house.
