CompUSA - no receipt, no warranty
by kimmi2ue | Mar 20 '01
CompUSA does not keep warranty information on file. If you use your receipt to take advantage of a rebate, you lose the extended warranty you paid extra for.

This is not the first or even the 20th time I've heard this kind of horror story about CompUSA. That's why I only buy stuff from that store that is free after rebate. That does not include "free" computers you get when you sign up for MSN. I mean the one with no strings attached. I have "bought" many free blank CDR's there, as well as keyboards, mice, cameras, etc. The only time I buy something that I actually have to PAY for (no rebate) is if the price is cheap (rare), and is a component I can replace myself (almost everything). This includes hard drives, CD drives, cables.

I would never buy a PC there. Buy from Dell or Gateway or a local store instead. Of course, if you have a PC guru in your family you can get things fixed cheap! I am that person in my family.

CompUSA is one of those companies that thinks the customer is a pain in the butt and interferes with their selling merchandise. I hope to God that this company, with the faltering economy, goes right down the drain.

Most people don't realize that as the economy is better, customer service goes down the drain because customers are a dime a dozen. However, when the economy turns south, customer service becomes very important because each customer has less to spend and is hence more valuable to the company.

I have a mental list of companies that I will not be doing business with in the future because of the way they treated me when times were good. They can suffer with the rest of us while times are bad.

and could have been better. You mentioned that your headaches with their customer service were another Epinion--my vote would be that they be part of this Epinion, so that you could paint an overall picture of the gloominess of their service (if that's your viewpoint of it).

Also, there are no spaces between paragraphs, which makes the final effort more difficult to read. If there'd been more detail I probably wouldn't have rated it down just for that, though. Remember that you can use bold and italic HTML tags for headers and emphasis, and combined with spaces, this can be really effective and individual.

Since it's your first Epinion I wanted to take the time to explain myself. If you have questions, please mail me and I'll be happy to field them (or re-rate, should there be changes).
