| BConly's Full Review: Mauna Kea Beach |
I absolutly love this hotel!
I have been there 4 times and each time it gets better and better. The moment you walk in you are indulged in luxury and relaxation. The theme of the hotel is Buddism but dont get me wrong, this hotel is for anyone that wants complete relaxation. There are many, many reasons that you would want to come to this hotel.
1) The rooms are great with comfortable beds. Each room has a mini bar and, depending on how much you pay, you can have a living room, kitchen, etc. You can get rooms that are facing either the golf course or the beach. Both are beautiful but the beach view must be one of the best anywhere. The only con to the beach view is it is close to $100 extra per night.
2) The beach is among the best in the world. There are always lifeguards all over the beach and there are warnings and caution signs around the beach that inform visiters of the daily conditions. On the beach, you may rent towels, scuba equipment or anything else that you might need. There is also a bar right on the beach. The Bar-tenders at the bar are friendly and considerate.
3) There are many places to eat as well. The Pavilion is the Standard place to eat. This semi-formal restraunt is a great choice for breakfast (i recomend the buffet). However, if you go there for dinner, be prepared to have an unusually long wait for you food. The Crow's Nest restraunt is also great and is very casual. It is located right on the beach, outside. This is the perfect place for the kids to eat in a very casual environment. The Bisque is a formal restraunt open for dinner and has wonderful food. It is more Hawaiian food oriented than the other resturaunts, but other food can be ordered. And finally, by the golf course, The 19th Hole restraunt is a great convienient choice. It serves everything that the Crow's nest servs, but in a tiny bit more formal of an environment.
4) The Mauna Kea has a kids program in which your kids go on daily activities or participate in arts and crafts. This can free up nearly the whole day for pure relaxation if you have small children of ages 5-10.
5) The Mauna Kea has a world class golf course that is even one of the 9 golf courses in "Links 2000" (a golf computer game) You can download the demo where you can play the first 9 holes of this scenic course. The course has wonderful views of the ocean and is absolutely beautiful in all aspects. Be careful which days you go out however, sometimes the wind can definatly pick up.
6) The Mauna Kea's sister hotel, the Hapuna Prince hotel, is another wonderful place with a wonderful beach and another great golf course. This hotel also has many more shops and stores.
This is a wonderful hotel, the only reason i wouldn't go there is if i didn't have enough cash.
