Pros: it is fun
Cons: graphics nowhere near as good as it should be
The Bottom Line: SSX is very fun but the graphics are not yet good enough to warrant uying a PS2 at that price. If you have one already, Then buy it

| PacDan's Full Review: SSX for PlayStation 2 |
SSX is a good game. Its fun and is a cross between Tony Hawks 2 and 1080 snowboarding.
But, this game does not do justice for the PS2.
When I first saw the PS2 advertised i was going to go out and buy one. But, i decided to hire it first. I hired it with SSX and took it home to play. But whe I turned it on, I was shocked. The PS2 was not what it should have been. SSX was not what it should have been. SSX does not push this console to its limits in the least. With the PS2's so called "emoticon engine" its supposed to be all powerful. But the graphics lack smooth edges and had little textures. After playing this I went straight into my magazines to see the specs. After all, the PS2 is supposed to be god, right? I found that the problem with SSX is the fact that the PS2 has only 4MB of texture memory, and that to utilize the emoticon engine, you have to program it to use three chips simultaneously. So, it was obvious that SSX didn't do this.
The gameplay was, in itself, great. But the graphics werent what I had hoped. I suggest if you have a PS2, then buy this game for the gameplay, it has many tricks and if youre a fan of 1080, or tony hawks, this is a must. But if you're thinking of buying a PS2 just for SSX, have a real hard look in the mirror and see what else you can get for that much price.
