Pros: Image quality; speed, cover (adjustable)
Cons: Cover (too shiny - see fingerprints); film adapter (only one negative)
The Bottom Line: This is not a scanner for pros, but an average user (even the one that scans a lot) will find it easy to use and relatively fast. Good one.

| mikimikiveliki's Full Review: Canon CanoScan 3000F Flatbed Scanner |
This is my second scanner and is millions light years ahead of my first one (another Canon):fast, reliable, with a film adapter.
Setup is very easy (just respect the USB rule: install your driver before you plug your device (the scanner) and the software that comes in a box is good.
Caere OmniPro OCR is powerful, but somewhat difficult to setup. As I already have experience with this software (prior versions), I did it without any problem.
ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5 is not bad at all. It allows the user to fix the picture problems that were not fixed by driver (scratches, light, color balance, etc.) and to compose some new effects or add layers.
First, I tested this scanner on my old computer (P3/866 MHz/512M RAM) with USB 1.1. It wasn't that fast.
Then, I added a USB 2.0 PCI card (cheap one), and the scanning was about two times faster. Tests on my new VAIO PC (P4/2.6GHz/512M RAM) and USB 2.0 show that there is no much improvement with faster computer. It is USB 2.0 that makes difference.
It is compatible with different Windows versions and I tested it on Win 2000 and XP. No trouble with it.
Black and white documents are scanned in about 15 seconds and color ones are slower (almost 1 minute per page). Colors are correct, especially from scanned negatives. I found useful film adapter, but I consider that one frame is not enough. I wish there was place for at least three frames.
Three buttons on a front panel allow the user to scan, to copy (print) and to email scanned image, but you can reprogram them, so you can select the software you want to "attach" to each button. For example, scan button can use Adobe Acrobat to create PDF files.
Detail that I adore and don't like at a same time is a cover. It is very nice, shiny blue cover, but (bad news)fingerprints are so obvious on it. Have a cleaning cloth always near it.
The good news is that its height is adjustable, so you can scan everything - from one page document to 600-page book. Every document will fit correctly under the cover.
In conclusion, for the price you pay for it (actually, I saw it at about $ 70)you get a good, robust and relatively fast device, with good colors and good software bundle.
