So you want to order a pizza? You 'could' pick up the phone book, trying to find a Papajohns restaurant near you that delivers or you could visit Papajohns.com! I've only tried this ordering process once so I don't have that much experience. But the one time I did order everything went smooth as silk. Papajohns is my favorite pizza place, but I don't think this system will ever completely overtake the telephone orders.
Site Navigation:
The main feature of the site is obviously online ordering, but many other features are easily accessible. Not sure what Papajohns has to offer? Simply click on 'Menu' and all items are listed in an easy to read table. Papajohns.com also offers a store locator which can be useful when ordering online, calling on the phone, or pickup/delivery. Addresses and phone numbers are also listed for all locations.
As with most online services, career and investment sections are accessible, as well as a gift certificate request page. I never knew Papajohns offered gift certificates until I visited the online store!
Hours Of Operation:
It may seem strange to see a 'Closed' sign on the doors of Papajohns ordering system but it makes sense. Standard online operating hours are: Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. - 11 p.m., Friday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 12 a.m. & Sunday 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. If you attempt to order a pizza before or after the operation hours listed you will not be able to. The rest of the site works like usual, it's just the ordering system that is deactivated. Of course this makes perfect sense because no local restaurant is able/willing to stay open 24/7 to take online order. The site does not clarify a specific timezone, so it's best to rely on the hours of operation for your local store.
Signup:
If you don't have an account you must first signup. This process is fairly simple, which should take less than 2 minutes. You are required to enter you name, address, phone number, and select a username/password. The site will automatically select a local restaurant nearest you. You can also create different locations depending on where you want a pizza delivered (home, office, hotel, etc). You only need to create an account once, but must login each time you want to order.
Ordering Pizza:
Once you've created an account and logged onto the site you can go through the ordering system. This process is also fairly simple, but can take awhile to get use to if you are not familiar with online navigation. A great feature to ordering online is paperless coupons. These coupons are shown on the first page of ordering, although I've never needed to use them. If you do select one of the special it just adds it to your order. I don't believe you can use clipped paper coupons with online orders, although you may want to consult your local restaruant as they may take them on pickup orders only.
If you decide to make a custom order you simply select what you want, everything is point and click. You can pick from 3 different crusts, a variety of toppings, and even choose to add toppings on the whole pizza or just half. All possible combinations are available, just like ordering on the phone. Side orders are also available: soda, cheesesticks, breadsticks, etc.
Once you've finalized your order it's onto the checkout screen. A few confirmation screens will appear and they even send you a bill to your email address, stating the final price and estimated delivery time.
Payment Options:
There is currently no way to enter credit card information to pay for your pizza, so it's back to the old school method of cash on pickup/delivery. They also accept checks, but I've never personally used that method, therefore have no idea how it works.
Delivery Speed:
The confirmation message stated it would take around 45 minutes for delivery, however it only took 25-30 minutes. The restaurant nearest me is only 1 mile away, so I suspect that's the reason for a speedy delivery. Since online orders go through the internet, it would seem to take longer for orders to process since that information is sent through their main center and eventually ending up on a computer screen at a local restaurant. If they don't check the screen every few minutes they could miss your order. Of course I don't work at Papajohns so I have no idea how the whole system works.
Is This For You?:
I must say it was strange ordering pizza online but it was a rather fun experience. If you are not into computers or have no idea how to navigation a website then stick to phone orders. It takes about the same amount of time to order online as it does with a telephone. If your computer is 'always on' then online ordering is even faster, since you don't have to connect to the internet first. When calling on the telephone you can sometimes be put on hold, or worst case scenario they never answer. But when ordering online the site is always available, you don't have to wait on hold, and you have the option of taking your time. When ordering on the telephone ut's always rush rush rush, you don't have time to ask the kids what they want on their pizza, the clerk never knows what specials are available, etc. It can be nerve racking sometimes. But with Papajohns.com you can take all the time you want, browse through all the options, take advantage of special paperless coupons and not have to talk to anyone!
I would recommend trying out this service at least once, especially if you are a computer geek. Either way you order (phone or internet) it takes the same amount of time, you get the same ordering options, similar coupon deals, same delivery speeds, same great Papajohns taste, all for the same price. It all comes down to ordering preferences: whether you want to call and talk to a real person, or take your time alone on the computer without ever having said a word to anyone. I hate talking on the phone and since this is my favorite pizza place I will most likely use their internet service quite often.
