| colbydog66's Full Review: Intercity Lines |
First I'm a real person, who moved a real car. The car was bought on ebay, it is a 1974.5 MGB. The move was from Ohio to Rhode Island.
I was very frustrated with the service I was receiving from other shippers (some can be found on epinions with not so good reviews). I had to cancel with two non-cooperating shippers.
Finally, I got a recommendation from a friend on another bulletin board, to check out www.intercitylines.com. Well, let me tell you this. If you don't use them, you made a mistake. You've heard all of the horror stories about other movers. Vague pickup/delivery windows, car damage, contact issues, hidden charges.
Let me tell you about my experience with Intercity Lines. I had tried two other companies first and got jerked around. That's when I went looking here and elsewhere for advice.
I completed an online quote request at www.intercitylines.com. Within an hour or two, Bob Seller had emailed me back the price. $700.00. Pickup would be approximately 10 days away. Maybe sooner.
I called back and asked what the fee would be to say pick this up in 5 days, as I had the seller waiting (a month now) on the other end. Their expedited service, added another $300.00. Realizing that there was no way this car was getting back to my house for under $800 of real cost (time off from work, airline flight, mileage, wear and tear on my truck, etc) whether I drove it or shipped it, I considered that expedited option to be a viable alternative. This was last Friday. Bob wanted to know what my decision would be (he needed to divert a truck) by COB Friday. I contacted the seller to make sure he was available, then called back Bob to confirm.
The car was picked up promptly Saturday morning. Delivery was to be Thursday of this week. The driver called yesterday to ask if I would like my car today! Hell yeah!! Two-day turn-around. Wow.
Now let me tell you about the equipment:
Fully Enclosed, huge semi. This is all Intercity Lines uses. Driver contacted me several times and at several locations he was a pro. My car was covered with a plastic tarp inside the truck. Seats and floor were protected, too. My 74 MGB, leaks oil, of course, but not too bad. They have considered this, and so my car wouldn't leak on other cars, the top rack has a protective liner, so top cars don't drip on bottom. My car was in their with 2 2003 Mercedes. It was given the same attention. The driver was very neat, very courteous, very professional. He got my car off of the truck gently. When it stalled and wouldn't start, he offered to help, we determined it to be the neg. battery wire had come loose. Tightened it up, and I was on my way.
You may find cheaper... but read the horror stories. Bottom line is, you get what you pay for.
