The Bottom Line Having a new used car is better than having to pay 1000's of dollars to live in a brand new car....

I have never purchased a new car, and I never will. For the cost of a new car, I could make a downpayment on a new farm.

In the past 20 years, I have owned five cars. All used, and all in pretty darn good condition. The bodies may not have always looked the best, but the motors are always in good condition, and that, to me, is all that matters; getting to point A or B.

The first time I purchased a used car, I did the fool mistake of going to a car dealer.
Now, you would think that going to a dealer I would get a guarantee that the car would be in excellent condition.
Wrong.
The car costed me 2500.00, and within six weeks I had a nice looking shell with a cracked engine.

After that I went into search modes.

I have found cars through the air exchange. The air exchange is a local run business. Well, actually it is a raido show that is on in the mornings where citizens sell their goods. No vehicles can be over 1000.00. I purchased a truck through a "citizen" on the air exchange and it is still in excellent running shape. In fact, it is over ten years old (when we bought it), and have owned it for two years now.
Not once have we had to bring it in to the garage and of course, my husband does the oil change, filter change ect. needed, but otherwise no harsh remedies needed.

The car I own I bought from a student going off to college. It cost me 100.00 and is great. It has started in the cold winter months with no problem and has never overheated in the summer months.

I recommend that the best bet is to check your local raido shows where others are selling cars, in the fall when college students are more apt to sell their cars (or their parents are) and usually in the spring months when folks are getting rid of their winter beaters.

For what you will pay for in a new car, use to put a down payment on a home instead, you can live in your house, but not in your car.
