Re: Not sure about them, (Reply to this comment)

Your welcome.
I really don't think they are meant to be taken seriously--and that's what I like about them. The voice? Well, it is a bit grating, but no more so than most of the hair/glam/rock that I so liked in the eighties.
Anyway, thanks for the comment. Much appreciated.
Shelly.

Not sure about them, (Reply to this comment)
by Abraxmed
a friend who lives in NYC told me about thema few months ago, saying they were the new big thing there. So a few months later they actually hit Virginia(I'm convinced everything in Virginia is behind the times). Anyway I was interested to hear what the hype was about. Certainly not what I was expecting. A mix of classic rock and Eddy Mercury. His voice makes my ears want to bleed, but the music is kind of fun. Hard to take serious, but there is something there. Well thanks for the review,
Brax

Ever notice... (Reply to this comment)

...how we criticize bands who do the same thing a lot of popular bands are doing today, but gush over bands who do the same thing a lot of bands were doing back during a particular area? Basically, whether being a "copycat" is good or bad depends on the age of the material you're copying. (Well, that and whether you liked the trend to begin with.) Just an interesting thought. Good review.

review as ever.
As you may have guessed I am a Brit (though not kick-a*s.... well, maybe!). Never heard of these guys despite hailing from the centre of the universe, a place not even 100 miles from Norfolk.
Norfolk is usually famous for turkies, but this lot sound interesting. I think I may give em a try, thanks!

Since I wrote my review of this album, the band have been catapulted into the limelight in major fashion, so to speak. Emm... its getting a little annoying for me, as literally everyone I know loves The Darkness, the songs I am hearing everywhere, and if I don't stop hearing them soon I fear I will soon become bored of the band. But, in the meantime, this certainly is a fabulous album, a lot of fun.
Great review

Sounds goofy enough to be likeable... (Reply to this comment)

Hey, I'm not opposed to cheezy butt-rock throwback bands...one of my favorite local bands in Sacramento (alas, now defunct) fit that description to a T.
Assuming I can afford to buy the vast seas of albums I am looking for, this will be on the list. :)

Apparently so! I guess i can see how Justin could be a jingle writer. These songs ARE pretty catchy!

They've become proper massive over here. Their videos have made MTV interesting again!
Long live Brit-a*s-rock!
Oh, and the lead singer, Justin, used to be a jingle writer. He was quite successful at it, but the lack of spandex office wear meant a career change was in order.
