independance day is woeful (Reply to this comment)
by pegx
inderpendance day has some of the worst acting i've seen especily from will smith. and anyone who would cast harry conick jr in a movie has mentle problems he is appalling. and bill pillman really lowerd himself, have you seen lost highway pullman was amazing in that but he sucked in I.D
it shows you no matter how good an actor is bad dialogue is bad dialogue.

The Matrix!? (Reply to this comment)
by blinkgreday
I agree with all your choices...except The Matrix! Why does everybody LOVE this movie? I HATE this movie with a passion. People get too caught up in the special effects. Special effects are not what make a great movie, it's good acting and a good plot, which The Matrix does not have. I do have to compliment you on puttiing Dumb & Dumber number 2. It is a great movie.

This was hilarious. He's serious. He thinks 'Dumb and Dumber' is the funniest movie of all time. He'll probably have another "funniest movie ever" in a year. This review was like a car accident. I found myself staring in morbid fascination.

Your Entitled to Your Opinion But... (Reply to this comment)
by hollywoodmagic
I will always stand by that motto, but I must let you know that it is ignorant to think that in the one-hundred years since the movies began the ten greatest have been made in the last decade. Although the films you listed may be enjoyable, try going back to the silents of the 1920s...watch ten films from each succeeding decade up until now and then revitalize your list. I think that by opening your horizons you can become a more fully realized movie fan!

Interesting, but only for some (Reply to this comment)
by lux787
While it was interesting to view your personal favorite movies, I think you neglected to point out that this was exclusively based on your own taste and personality. I don't think it's fair to advertise this list as "the best movies of all time." It was a good list, though.

Nonsense (Reply to this comment)
by alcazar
C'est tout simplement n'importe quoi !

Oops, sorry ! I'd rather write in English. Your opinion is rather surprising ! I don't understand why you didn't put some real great movies in your list.

What about Welles, Kubrick, Scorsese, Lang and Hitchcock ? Do you know them ? I really advise you to watch their movies and I'm sure you would completely change your list.

Allez, sans rancune !

best movies of all time (Reply to this comment)
by yankeessuckcok
to make a list of the 10 best movies of all time is utterly impossible because you will always be leaving worthy movies off the list but here goes.
10. rain man - phenomenal, dustin hoffman was incredible, a movie that can make you laugh and cry at the same time always deserves to be held in high esteem.
9. men of honor - robert deniro is easily the best actor of all time and he was awesome again in this movie.
8. shawshank redemption - also a great story and great movie to watch.
7. seven - astounding movie. the fact that the villain triumphs in his own sick way is what makes this movie so good because if i were brad pitt i would have done the same thing at the end even if i was the president of the united states. too often do we see people in movies supress what they really want to do because of their jobs. granted they are movies but its nice to see the villain win and the hero play to his true feelings and not do the politically correct thing like make him go to jail.
6. fight club - one of the cleverest films ever made.
5. heat - action packed and the only who even comes close to the acting skills of deniro is pacino and they clash in this movie which had an awesome cast making it the movie that it was.
4. memento - easily the cleverest movie ever made. i have never seen anything like it and you can watch it all day and the next day youll still be questioning yourself about it.
3. the usual suspects - once again i like the fact that keyser soze gets away in this movie and when u watch it for the first time you could never have guessed who he was.
2. american history x - this movie left the biggest impression on me out of any movie ive ever watched
1. braveheart - everything about this movie was great. its just too bad that it doesnt get the recognition it deserves. to say that gladiator was better than this is preposterous because in braveheart william wallace fights for the love of his wife and country, which was the basic premise behind gladiator, so to say that gladiator was better when it basically copied braveheart is ridiculous. gladiator was a great movie but in my mind it was great on the premise that braveheart had already established.
i chose to leave the godfather movies off the list because everyone always picks them to be number 1 and the godfather collection is the best trilogy ever and they are all great movies, 1 and 2 being worthy on my list but i left them off because they are in a class of their own. plus, its like picking stairway to heaven as the greatest song of all time, okay we know it is but for once pick a different song and put stairway on the shelf and let someone else have a shot. scarface and raging bull are others that i left off because they too are in a league of their own with the godfather. i tried to stick with the modern movies because everywhere you look these idiot critics pick movies from the 50's and earlier to be the best and the critics should grow and a pair and pick some different movies instead of sticking to the script.
here are some other movies that i feel need to be recognized as great movies and should be watched by anyone who feels like sitting down and watching a good movie one night. the deer hunter, the green mile, rounders, forrest gump, goodfellas, the patriot, minority report, good will hunting, a few good men, gladiator, the matrix, a time to kill, carlito's way, blow, snatch, sleepers, traffic, casino, the professional, pulp fiction, arlington road, silence of the lambs, platoon, apocalypse now, primal fear, sneakers, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, donnie brasco, stand by me, murder in the first, tombstone, a bronx tale, taxi driver, natural born killers, the big lebowski, the breakfast club, 13th warrior, interview with the vampire, spy game, the shining, and the people vs. larry flynt.

Rachel's top ten movies of all time (Reply to this comment)
by royalprincess
I've always loved movies. When I was a child I could sit in front of the television for hours on end watching videos or TV. Granted that was probably bad for me, but it was something I loved. I was a born TV addict, and it seems to have gotten worse as I've aged.

This is a list of what I personally consider to be the top ten movies of all time. Before you read you might want to take into account that I am eighteen (nearly nineteen) and female.

Now without any further ado, here is the list.

1)Gone With The Wind
Until I saw this movie for the first time recently, I could just not understand what all the hype was about. However when I did finally watch the entire film I could. It's a master piece. Everything from the script, to the acting and sets it amazing. It blows me away every time I watch, and is the perfect romantic movie/drama.

2) The Indiana Jones Trilogy
Who doesn't love Indy Jones? Everyone I know loves him and the movies, and it's not hard to see why. They have action, adventure, romance, and everything else that makes a film good.

3) The Back To The Future Trilogy
When I was a kid I would watch the Back To The Future films just because I had a crush on Michael. J Fox. When I got older though I started to appreciate them for the story. They are incredible, and really got me hooked on time travel.

4) Batman
I've been a Batman fanatic since I was nine, and the original 1989 movie by Tim Burton is largely to blame for that. It's a stunning work of art that's perfect in every way.

5) Grease
Grease has always been a favorite of mine. I caught it on TV one day during summer vacation, and I was hooked on it ever since. The songs, the dancing, the characters and the chemistry between all the actors gets me every time. It's so much fun, and really cheers me up if I'm feeling down.

6) The Goonies
The Goonies, in my humble opinion, is the ultimate kids adventure movie. Today I enjoy as much as I did as a child, maybe even more so. It's timeless, believable, and enormous fun.

7) Labyrinth
For me movies, mainly fantasy movies, don't come much better than this.

8) Bonnie and Clyde
I couldn't have been much older than ten or eleven when I first saw the 1967 movie Bonnie and Clyde. I fell in love with it instantly, and it's been a firm favorite with me ever since.

9) Heart and Souls
This is a really heart warming, feel good movie. It's a sweet sentimental comedy about a man and four spirits, and has many lovely moments. Sadly the movie is extremely under-rated (nobody I know has ever even heard of it), but personally I love it.

10) Mermaids
Where else can you see Cher, Winonna Ryder, and Christina Ricci all together? This movie is great if only for the cast. I love the 1960s nostalgia, and the story is nice and original.

So there's my list. It was very hard for me to narrow it down to just ten, especially since my favorite movies change all the time, but those have always been my main favorites.

Hope you enjoyed the review. :-)

"*snip* It seems pretty reasonable that as the film industry gets more mature and experienced it will produce better films. *snip*"

No. It really isn't the least bit reasonable. Creativity doesn't move on a sliding scale like that. Unless you also believe that the new plays popping up in Broadway are better than Shakespeare or that John Grisham is better than Dickens. Art doesn't evolve to a perfect point over time.

No way are these the best movies of all time, not even the best of the nineties.
I might have the 4-10 on my list of the best of the nineties, but I totally disagree with your top 3.
They have no place on the list!!!

Give the guy a break! (Reply to this comment)
by neil_robertson
I think your'e being a bit harsh on this guy. His review sounded pretty fair to me, (even though I didn't agree with Dumb and Dumber). It seems pretty reasonable that as the film industry gets more mature and experienced it will produce better films. Of course films are purely subjective. We all have our own opinions (or should that be Epinions?!). A person who writes his review in the 90s will say that the best films are in the 90s!

Your Youth is Showing (Reply to this comment)
by brendainaz
Gas Jocket is obviously very young, unless he honestly believes that, of all the movies ever made, the ten best were made within the last decade - maybe even within the last five years!

There are many, many fine movies made before GJ was sentient. It takes a lot more movie watching - and some education on movies no longer shown in theaters - to proclaim the ten best of all time.

I can't disagree that he picked some really good flicks, but 10 all-time best? I don't think so.

"Die Hard" and "Se7en" (Reply to this comment)
by green1
Good choices.

One interesting thing you mentioned about "Die Hard" was the number of memorable villians. Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber tended to overshadow the other bad guys, but they each had a unique identity and you could easily distiguish between them, and that's a tough trick in a movie. Excellent point.

Also, If I remember correctly, "Se7en" was a huge hit at the box office. I'm pretty sure it pulled in $100 million in the U.S. and probably even more overseas. That was, of course, a surprise to a lot of people in Hollywood who think that only "Disney-fied" pictures make any money.

Listen man, I read all those comments on your list that were telling you how crappy your list was... Pay no mind to those simpletons. Austin Powers 2 WAS a great movie... so was Dumb and Dumber. My list was drastically different, but I must admit, your list did have some truly magnificent films. Keep up the good work and pay no heed to narrow minded nay-sayers.

Actually.... (Reply to this comment)
by a_r_egerton
I'd change the title of your list to "Best Movies of the Nineties", since all your movies are from that decade.

There were plenty of good movies from other decades: Star Wars, the first two Godfather movies, Citizen Kane, E.T., many Hitchcock movies, etc.

Are you trying to antagonize the serious movie reviewers on this site? (Reply to this comment)
by grimjack2
You know reading this list, I almost think you picked at least five of them just to annoy people enough to leave you comments and spread the word about the kind of films you pick as the 'greatest'. If you had at least said "My Favorite Films..." as opposed to "The Best Films...", people would respect you more. I like the majority of the films on the list, but even the biggest supporters of "Jurassic Park" admit that it was hollow as far as films go. And "Austin Powers 2"? Have you even seen the first one? That was far more clever, witty, and original. The sequel took many of its jokes directly from it. "Dumb & Dumber" wasn't bad for a Farrely brother's movie, but surely you've seen funnier comedies that weren't as silly?

I don't want to be as mean as some of the other people who have left you comments, but I think I can politely say that for at least 70% of the films on your list, there is a better film that your choice borrowed from.
