Pros: Good location. Large rooms with extras included.
Cons: Indoor pool not in use. Older type of hotel. Could use a lick of paint.
The Bottom Line: If you can get this hotel at a coupon price, then it's a good buy. If you are paying more, then try a timeshare, or a hotel with suites.

| Susie-34668's Full Review: AmeriHost Inn Resort Kissimmee |
Several months ago I received an e-mail from the Ramada chain, offering my husband and I a free vacation in Orlando. As we go over several times a year I decided to check it out. I read through the whole deal and all I had to do was print out my certificate. I then telephoned the toll free number and gave them the certificate number. The gentleman on the other end of the line, Duane, took all the details and then tried to talk me into two 5 day, 4 night vacations for $200. I told him I only wanted the free vacation, and sent off my $50 deposit, to be returned at check-in.
I had to give 60 days notice of my dates, and got my reservation number within a couple of weeks. I was informed I would be staying at the Amerihost Resort Maingate, in Kissimmee. This hotel is opposite my timeshare, Westgate Towers, so I was really happy with the location. Close to the entrance to Disney, the Interstate 4, plenty of restaurants and supermarkets.
Tuesday we had breakfast and off to the Orlando area. We stopped off for snacks for our room, in the Publix close by, and arrived at the hotel around 1.00pm. We were able to park immediately in front of the hotel. This hotel used to be the Diplomat Maingate, and we had only been inside to check out the karaoke, once a few years back.
I read the paperwork we had been sent and we were to go to the 'Welcome Center' located at the back of the hotel to pick up our hotel vouchers. A young lad took our paperwork and said that we had been booked in for 2 nights, which was correct. He then said that we would be doing a presentation the following morning at 8.30am. This would take approximately 90 minutes.
I informed him that we had not agreed to this and that my certificate stated my $50 would be returned at check-in at the hotel. He tried to argue and I turned around to Len and said we will take this up with the Hotel Manager. His Manager came over and apologized. Told us the sales staff are always screwing up, and gave us the $50 cash, and no timeshare to do.
We headed for check-in and the young lady was very efficient. I asked for a non-smoking king size bedroom. She offered us two queen size beds and that was fine. The bellboy collected our luggage and took us to our room on the second floor. Really nice chap and extremely helpful.
The hotel was an older style. The hallways needed a lick of paint and it looked a little drab. Our room was large. As well as the two beds, there was a large table, 2 chairs, the television had limited channels, a refrigerator, coffee maker, safe, iron and ironing board, as well as all the normal items in a hotel room. The bathroom was spacious too. It was clean with plenty of towels, hand lotion, shampoo/conditioners.
After coming back from SeaWorld and the Mecardo, we decided to check out the karaoke. There were some good singers and we stayed until it finished at 11.00pm.
Wednesday we spent at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Old Town. When we arrived back at the hotel I decided to take a look around. The front desk was to my left. Then to the right was a gift shop. Next to that a fitness center. I looked in because I was too tired to workout. It was small but had some great machines for a complete workout session.
Immediately ahead were the two elevators that took us up to our floor. These were glass on the opposite side so we could look at what was going on. Immediately behind the elevators was the indoor heated pool, that was out of use. Luckily I swim everyday, so hadn't come to use it. The jacuzzi was working, and people used it the first night. The right side of the pool was the bar. The Brass Monkey. During Karaoke they would ring the bell and have different half priced drinks.
The food Court was here too. This is where we sat to listen to the music. There was a Pizza Hut and 2 more windows with sandwiches and snacks, etc. Towards the back of the room was the main dining room. They had a breakfast buffet for $4.99 and a dinner buffet for $8.95. We didn't have time to try them.
Right at the rear was a Video theater. There were restrooms down a hallway. A caracature artist was there both nights.
The area behind the elevators was one huge room, it looked about 4 stories high. Had a Florida theme of painted palm trees. It was a neat concept, made you feel as if you were outside.
I was extremely pleased that you had to go inside the hotel to get to your room. I hate motel style, hotels, where you have an outside door. The hallways were carpeted but you could still here people going to and from their rooms. We could also here people in other rooms, so the walls were not very thick. The air-conditioning was great. No in the window, or under the window individual unit. I can actually say that I slept really good both nights. That never happens in cheap hotels.
Thursday morning I telephoned down to see if I had to check-out. I was told that there was no balance. I had paid the $24 taxes for the two nights at registration. I could just deposit the keys in the box on leaving. We were out of the hotel before 9.00am, stopped for breakfast, and back home long before lunchtime.
This was a short 48 hour trip, but one of the best I have had. I would not recommend this hotel if you were paying the rack room rate of $120 a night. However, if you paid the price in all the coupon books $39.95 plus taxes, I think you would be getting a great deal.
We got the best deal of all, thanks to Ramada, and the staff who honored our certificate.
