When it comes to picking out the sport bra that’s perfect for you, there are a few things that you need to think about. Bust size, activity level, price range and durability are just a few of the things to consider. When I come across a sport bra that I like, I usually stock up on them – especially when they are on sale. I only own handful of regular bras and those are usually reserved for special occasions. Sport bras are just more comfortable to wear and in the dead of summer you can take off your shirt and catch some rays without getting a ticket for indecent exposure. The Everlast Racer Back Sport Bra is what I consider a basic sport bra; it provides you with support, has a cotton lining for added comfort and the thick shoulder straps help prevent them from rolling or sliding around. For larger breasted women, this bra offers a great amount of support but if you are planning on doing a lot of running, jogging or aerobic activity you might want to check out one of the other Everlast sport bras designed especially for those who are "chest blessed".
Everlast Racer Back Sport Bra
Just like every other sport bra, this is an ‘over the head’ slip on styled bra that provides breast support as well as being pretty darn comfortable to wear. I’ve had a lot of different sport bras, from the $4.99 run of the mill brands to the more expensive signature series styles and I have to say that this is just as durable and comfortable as the $30.00 and $40.00 ‘professional grade’ sport bras. The racer back style isn’t something that everyone will initially feel comfortable with but after a few wearings you’ll hardly notice the design. This is great if you are going to be exercising outdoors or wearing a tank top since you’ll still be able to get a little sun on your back due to the cut out sections. It carries the Everlast logo, has thick generous, but not binding, sections of elastic and gives you a lot of freedom to move. What I like best is the thick should straps. You might not think that this would be a selling point but it most definitely is. These won’t roll, bend of kink and they never dig into your skin like the thin strapped versions. I wear a backpack or knapsack and with some sport bras you get a lot of pressure on the straps that leaves you with red marks when you take it off, not so with this bra. To but it mildly … wearing one of these is as comfortable as wearing nothing at all.
Colors
Currently, this is only available in three colors; black, white and blue. There is a similar Everlast sport bra that lacks the back bottom opening that is available in more colors so if you are looking to color coordinate, this alternative style is an option. I have several of the white and black versions of this sport bra and they’ve help up nicely over the past year and a half. The white does start to lose it’s sharp color from sweat but the black on still had the nice deep rich color. I tried to dye one of the white ones and ended up with a complete mess – it looked like someone took a microwave meal, dumped it on the shirt, mashed it up and hung it out to dry. I never purchased one of the blue ones so I can’t comment on how they hold up or how steadfast the color is.
Sizes
Sized from small to extra large, this sport bra will fit almost everyone. If you are well endowed in the breast area the extra large size is the way to go because there’s enough stretch to it so it will take up the slack in areas where you need less material and coverage. I wear an extra large based solely on my breast size, the large fit nicely but I knew that after wearing it for a few hours I’d be dying to get out of it. Since there aren’t an size comparisons listed for these you’ll have to try it on or if you are purchasing from an internet store, ask them what the size equivalent is. These do tend to give a little after several washings but do retain their overall shape and form.
Price
These have a suggested retail price of $14.99 to $19.99, which might seem a bit much for a basic sport bra but once you wear one of these you’ll see that it’s money well spent. If you are a bargain shopper, Wal-Mart carries a limited selection of Everlast clothing but you have to dig through a lot of merchandise to find them. These are usually priced around $12.99 at Wal-Mart, which is a real steal. If you can’t find these locally, you can purchase them from the Everlast Online Store for $20.00. You can check online sporting good stores for sales but I’ve found this is a hit or miss proposition – you are either going to find it dirt-cheap or have to pay full price. Is it worth it? To me it is; I get support, a nit fit and they wash up nicely.
Care
Like almost all other sport bras, the manufacturer suggests you wash this in cold or warm water [depending on the color], no bleach, tumble dry. Personally, all my sport clothes are washed in hot water to remove sweat marks that will eventually stain clothing or change the actual color of the clothing. I’ve had a lot of luck with this sport bra and the ones that I own are still holding up well. Since I don’t use bleach the white ones aren’t as vibrant as when I first purchased them and a few of them have developed the dreaded sweat rings under the arms – but other than that – these are real troopers.
The Bottom Line
If you are looking for a well made sport bra that will give you the support you need, the Everlast Racer Back Sport Bra is a great choice. You might get a slight case of sticker shock when you see the price tag but if you shop around you can get them well below the suggested retail price. Personally I’d rather pay a little more for an item initially if it is going to last, that means you won’t have to replace it as often and in the long run you’ll be saving money.
