The Bottom Line No sales help. Can't return products on time to get a refund. Just say NO.
CompUSA would make a good place for B Plot movies. The maniac driving by shooting out windows / throwing grenades / taking hostages. Godzilla stepping on the building. Burt Reynolds coming through the roof to help a rookie burglar learn the ropes.
Anything but a helpful computer store where you save money. I can only remember one successful experience there, buying a monitor.
Now I admit, I am more of a software geek than a hardware one. I do know some things about computer hardware. But it would be nice for a little help to make sure I have the product that fits my PC.
So rather than give endless examples of bad shopping trips I will give you one purchase that ended up with 2 parts I couldn't use.
I came there to buy a pocket PC. Do you think I could find anyone to help? No. What few sales people there were on the floor had a line behind them waiting for help (as usual). Eventually I gave up and went somewhere else where there WERE sales people and bought one.
Turns out my PC needs a serial port or a USB port for it that the computer didn't have. Where I bought the Pocket PC didn't have the cards, so maybe I will try CompUSA. Bad move. I waited forever. I bought a USB card (with sales help). It did fit the slot. Unfortunately it did not work with my system even though it was supposed to. Also unfortunate for my pocketbook is that I have a life, and the return policy is so short that I missed it and now am stuck with a USB card I cannot use.
OK, so I still want to use my Pocket PC, which by this time I wouldn't be able to return to ANY store.
I go back and wait forever for sales help again. I buy a serial port card that has a parallel port also (just in case). Again I have a life. Again the card fits the slot, but doesn't work with my system. Again I miss the deadline for returning it and again stuck with software I cannot use.
I guess it is time to buy a new computer with everything I need on it to start with, and I can use my Pocket PC. Let's see now...... this time I want a CD Burner, a ...... but I NEVER want to go to CompUSA again.
