| battosai's Full Review: Bonica Handy Snapper 35mm Point and Shoot Camera |
I recently bought the Bonica handy snapper because I wanted to start taking underwater pictures while scubadiving. This item seemed to be a good value and safe choice to begin with.
The camera
The camera is relatively cheap. (In looks and in quality.) It looks flimsy and delicate.
The film loading in manual and is quite easy. The advancement of the film and the rewinding is also manual and is also fairly easy to do. The camera has a built in flash that needs 2 AA batteries. The flash is not automatic, it is either on or it is off. Also if you decided to turn it on because you need to (most of the time when taking underwater pictures, well you can't turn it off, because the housing does not have a button to do so.
Also the shutter has to be turned on before you put it into the housing for the same reason. It is basically a cheap land camera with an impressive housing.
The Housing
The housing is probably the highest quality of the product. It looks nice and is maintenance free. (No greasing of the o-ring, just a quick and easy inspection to make sure that it is clean)
It has a lock system. And has this lock on the button used to take the pictures which is nice (because it will prevent you from taking pictures that you really didn't want to take.) Also the housing look really nice. (clear and blue)
What happened
So i buy the camera read the manual, buy the batteries, buy and load the film. I am ready to capture the underwater world. We get to the diving site (The conestoga a wreck with a little drift) Gear up and finally give my buddy the final check and signal to go down...what do I see a BUNCH of FISH, i turn to my camera...there is water rising INSIDE the housing, hey wait a minute, that can't be good!
The end of the story. I didn't even have the chance to take one picture, so I do not know about the quality of the pictures, but I seem to have a little experience about the quality of the housing! I sent it back and will get another one. I will update the next time I go and take pictures. Thanks choose wisely
