Half.com is an Ebay affiliate which markets used and new products sold by small-time vendors and average citizens alike. Think of it as a more orderly version of Ebay. You can find your product of choice through an easy search, with each item categorized. No more plowing through endless search results in Ebay to find what you want! And although the items are being sold by individuals that are not connected to half.com, I've found the service to be more reliable than Ebay by far. Items sold range from books to music, electronics, movies, and a small assortment of everything else.
My main use for half.com comes at the start of every semester, when college students around the country are clamoring for textbooks as cheap as can be found. Every college student knows that buying a book from their school bookstore is usually a ripoff, and few have time to sort through classified ads posted on bulletin boards. Half.com has proved to be an excellent personal solution to my textbook problems. You can find any book by author, title, or ISBN number, and then take your pick from sellers who price their items based on the supply/demand market, and the condition of their items. Needless to say, I've saved a bundle. And because Half.com has a feedback system for its users much like Ebay does, you can be confident that customer satisfaction will be met.
With Half.com there is, much like Ebay, some tips you should use when shopping. First, be careful to read item descriptions. Just because a seller lists a book under an ISBN number, you can't always assume it's the edition you want, or hardcover/paperback. As always, be sure that you're dealing with a seller that has good feedback history. Shipping is also an important factor. All sellers must ship books through at least Media Mail, which can take up to two weeks. For students like me, that's a lot of homework you'll have to catch up on once your books do arrive. Try for expedited mail if you need it on time. And keep track of your order, don't assume all's well until you get see a confirmation of shipping from Half.com. Sometimes sellers list one item multiple times, and if you pay for something that's already been sold, prepare to have your money returned and the sale rendered invalid.
Half.com is also a great resource for sellers. Whether you want to get rid of textbooks, old computer games, or used CDs, the service makes it very easy to sell. Half.com provides a picture and description of the item for you, all you have to do is enter some details about its condition, name your price, and list. There is no listing fee, only a commission for items sold, based on the sale amount. Half.com will also reimburse shipping charges to a generous extent, almost paying you to use their service rather than selling your items by yourself.
All in all, this online shopping site is an excellent resource for anyone who doesn't mind their items preowned. Pay attention on your end of the deal, and you'll find plenty of bargains.
