I bought an SNG41G2 to use with Adobe Premiere Pro and AfterEffects. Now, this box may seem an odd choice for that application, but I wanted a computer I could set on my worktable, and whose connectors are easy to get to.
I bought the unit with an AMD 2500+ processor and 512MB memory. The video chipset uses 128MB, leaving me 384MB memory, with room to add 512MB more. My unit came with a 40GB hard drive (which I use as a system drive), and I added a 160GB hard drive and a DVD-R drive. Adding the drives was painless, and they worked without a hitch.
Note that if you add a floppy drive to the Shuttle, you won't have room for a second hard drive. Obviously, I didn't put a floppy in my system.
The front panel connections (USB 2.0 and FireWire) are a big plus for me, since I am constantly connecting and disconnecting peripherals (DV cameras, digital still cameras, jog/shuttle controllers, and so on) from the box.
If you plan to use the Shuttle to drive a home entertainment system, be aware that while the unit has an S-VHS connector on the back, its SPDIF jack (optical) is on the front of the unit. Not an issue for me, since I'm using the computer in a different application.
A couple more backside USB ports would be nice. I have them all filled, so I will need to use a hub if I add any more permanent USB devices. Other than that, I am very pleased with the computer. I am still amazed that a 200GB video editing workstation can be fit into a $1,000 box the size of a toaster.
