I am a life long mac user as well as a designer, therefore i was somewhat brainwashed into believing that epsons were the only way to go when choosing printer. So when i began researching printers, i started my search with epson.
I was looking for a printer that allowed me the flexibility to do home project but was also powerful enough to create professional quality items. When viewing epson items, i found that nothing they had really seamed these two worlds. Plus, all the printers i looked at didn't have ability to use all functions/features in both OS 9 and OS X. I even began to look at HP's, but basically encountered the same issues.
I then stumbled onto the canon site and and came across the canon i9100. Although it is listed as a photo printer (which almost all inkjets are markets as anyways) i found that it also had the power to create the quality design prints i was looking for. It is the perfect printer for the person who wants the creative ability to do anything but strives to have a professional product.
The only true issue i encountered was during installation. The step by step instructions make is super simple for OS X--that only took me a little bit. What was more difficult was figuring out how to install for OS X and the classic environment, OS 9. However, i called customer service number and they walked me thru the process step by step. And the call from start to finish only took 20 minutes (which is a record in my book, esp. when dealing with mac's).
All in all, this is a great printer. And while it cost over $400 dollars, it was money well spent. It is doing everything i had hoped. So far i have printed on vellum (make sure it inkjet printable), plain paper--even 110lb paper! It takes it all and gives great prints. I have to hand it to canon, they have made a true quality product.
