Will That Be Glass or Plastic?

The Bottom Line Decide what your requirements are, and make a decision based on them. I choose plastic because it doesn't break.I think that makes it safer.

I have owned an Oster blender for years. It started life with a glass container, which got broken. My mother-in-law knocked it off the counter when we were putting away the dishes.

I got a new glass container, and guess what? You guessed it, not once, but twice my glass container got broken. This time one of my children knocked it off the counter, and I yelled, "don't move!" as I rushed to clean it up before anyone got hurt.

I liked my glass containers, but I gave up after buying two replacements.

I still had the same blender; I just switched to plastic. I bought my new container at the same place that I bought the glass ones--a local appliance fix-it shop.

Since I have used both glass and plastic, I am able to compare the two.

THE PROS

GLASS

1. It's dishwasher safe.
2. It hand washes easily
3. It doesn't retain odors.

PLASTIC

1. also dishwasher safe
2. also hand washes easily
3. It's unbreakable--important if you have small children who could get hurt by flying glass, or who could step on broken glass.

THE CONS

GLASS

*It breaks and could cause
injury.

PLASTIC

*Some odors stick, but they can be eliminated with a baking soda solution.

As it works out, both have an equal amount of pros and cons. Both perform well, but I'm going to stick with plastic, since now I have small grand children who could get hurt by flying glass if another glass container were broken.

Finally--it's a personal decision. Make your choice based on your requirements.
