your words inspired and moved me - to tears - your article was beautifully written, and if there is a child someplace that calls you "dad" - give him/her a big hug just because.....that child is blessed to have you for a daddy.....if there isn't yet, then cherish the child that lives inside of you - you have honored him well

What a well written article! Very indepth and inspirational. And you're right. I sing to my kids all the time (since they were babies...now 3,4, and 6)and they still love it. We spend lots of family time together. Whether it's watching TV, playing video games, blowing bubbles, playing basketball, laughing at jokes, etc.--Lots of love and affection DO make kids feel special and glad to be home.

I'm Living Proof That Your Theory Works! (Reply to this comment)

I always felt loved at home, and the lines of communication were always open--not to say that we didn't disagree at times and even get a little loud with it--so I've gone out into the world with a sense of self. I would listen to my peers, but, if I didn't agree with them, I wouldn't automatically like something or do something just because they did and/or wanted me to. And I knew that love felt good, so I wanted to give it away as well as receive it. This is how I've remained for all of my forty-eight-plus years, so I'd say that you have something there! ;o)

You have really gotten to the core issue, in my opinion, and done so in a beautiful manner. The people in your life will be blessed by your insight.

We can't give what we don't have. If we haven't been loved sufficiently, we can't develop self-love and, in turn, love others. The only nuance I see somewhat differently is that when a person does hurtful things to others, it may not be because they love themself more, but rather because they do not love themself enough. The fear that one is unlovable often provokes aggressive defensive actions.

Whatever. This is a small nuance. Congratulations on your insights and the ability to write them so lucidly!

You've put into straightforward terms a very deep understanding of love and affection in a way I could not have done. Whatever glows from within you to produce this outlook toward the world, I respect it. This is one of those essays that made me stop and think for a minute and reflect on how little I know and how much there is to learn. Thanks!

is so very beautiful. You wrote the correct words...words that gave substance to the sentences.

I hope many readers will see this as it's a review that certainly makes sense...Love of life is the key. Thank you. I shall pass this on.

One of my biggest bugaboos are parents that don't allow "bragging", either of their children or by the child himself. Recognizing the child is the most important thing of all..
And btw..based on your Epinions it's hard to believe you ever got a "C" in your report cards!

I liked what you said here - especially this, "but if you trace a person's motives right down to the core, Love will be involved in one way or another eventually".

When I worked at the PO my postmaster renamed me the WHY girl because I always ask why (analyze everything until I'm roughly a moment from driving my mind haywire) - Anyway, I've asked myself WHY? so many times about vicious hate crimes and serial killers - That type of thing.

I can only come up with one thought - we're all born little babies (the ones that make you smile in the grocery store line - like you said) And, unless a child had a mental "deformity" from birth, I believe that it is, again, as you said - The product of neglect, abuse or too little (too dysfunctional) affection... by dysfunctional I mean that I think there are times when a parent shows too much love as a way too hold on to a child (this is a self-serving love, too), the overly-dominant, overly-protective people who refuse to let go. Parents have to let go, too... lovingly... So, it all comes back to love - all the mental, emotional and self-destructive limits -

Sorry for going on and on... Just loved your opinion, though. Thanks, Gina
