Privacy has to be Earned

The Bottom Line Allow them their privacy until they prove otherwise. Allow it to be earned back.

I have three children. A daughter who is 18 1/2 and two boys that are 14 and 11.

I will allow my children their privacy until they prove they are up to some thing. Or doing something that isn't right.

When they are on the computer, the door to the room stays open. If the door is closed, they are doing something that they don't want me to see.

I've had this discussion with my daughter on more than one occasion. More times then not, she is talking to others and doesn't want me to see what she is saying. Bummer, door stays open. If you don't want me to see what your saying, use someone else's computer.

I will allow bedroom doors to remain closed on a regular basis. But if I feel that they are up to something, I will go into their room and check stuff out. Usually checking for drugs, items that I don't know where they came from or stuff just out of the ordinary.

I give them their privacy. However, if they lie, cheat or steal, then it must be earned back to be trusted.
