BackCountry Store is one of those places I’d heard about a few times in the various camping and RV groups I belong to. It wasn’t until I went on a quest for seam sealer last fall that I actually first purchased from them.
The site is very easy to navigate. The search engine works quite well, and for those of us who sometimes like to browse, there are categories along the left side of the homepage, as well as a more detailed category selection near the bottom.
BackCountry Store offers just about everything you can think of for the outdoor enthusiast. Campers, hikers, backpackers, skiers, canoers, kayakers, climbers and more can all find a great selection of gear. Name brands are featured, such as The North Face, Salomon, Oakley, Kelty, K2, and Yakima are some of the brands the site features.
The selection is great - I have found items here that I could not find at other online outdoor stores. The seam sealer was something that was especially critical when I was looking for it, and BackCountry Store had the brand I wanted at a good price. Some of the prices are higher than other sites I’ve come across, so it might be worth it to comparison shop. The sale prices here are pretty terrific, especially when talking about some of the name-brand gear. Factoring in the free shipping over what I would pay at some other sites, and sometimes items that seem more expensive in the beginning actually end up cheaper.
BackCountry Store also has sales featured on different items at various times of the year. I just purchased some nice winter clothes at a great price, brand names Oakley and The North Face. These items would have cost me quite a bit more at my local mall, and BackCountry Store was having a free UPS Ground Shipping special on orders over $50. Normally, shipping charges are automatically calculated when an item is deposited into your shopping cart. If you choose a different shipping option, the charges will also be incurred. I generally do not have a problem because I can hit $50 in spending quite easily.
My items have always been delivered in a timely manner as well. The items shipped UPS Ground arrived in less than a week. I could track the package online and know exactly where it was and when it was going to be delivered. The tracking system works well and links right to the UPS site.
The BackCountry Beacon is a bi-monthly newsletter the site offers and which can easily be subscribed to from the homepage. This gives me notice of sales, plus tips, stories, and information on the newest gear. A print catalog is also available, and links to order one are right on the homepage. Gift certificates are also available for purchase and can easily be redeemed with your order. Live help is also available from a link on the main page, should you have questions not answered right on the site.
I highly recommend this site to people looking for high-quality, name brand outdoor gear and clothes. I have never had a problem with them and would gladly order from them again.
As a side note, after my last purchase from BackCountry Store I was prompted to fill out a survey for Epinions. It was interesting to see the questions asked and the format for it.
