Almost everyone on the Internet has, at one time or another downloaded a mp3. A Mp3 is song that is compatible and played on every computer. There are millions of sites on the Internet devoted to allowing people to download music. You are only supposed to keep the song for 24 hours. Kind of like a sample to test out the music in case you want to but the CD. But no one deletes his or her Mp3s after only 24 hours.

That’s why such a controversy over a program called Napster is occurring. All Napster does is connect thousands of user’s computers together so that they can swap Mp3s for free. Recording labels say that that is wrong. But what is the difference between that and letting a friend borrow a movie or CD. The government is suing Napster, saying that is piracy and is decreasing the buying of CDs. Napster says it is helping the music industry by letting people listen to their favorite music. Who is really correct?

Napster is a simple program to download. It is very simple to set up. And in minutes, you can be listening to almost any song ever recorded. The Windows version comes with a built in player, to play your Mp3s on. The Mac version does not. Napster also had several features to customize your search for that perfect song. Including “Bitrate” (The quality of the song”, “Ping” (how close the other user is located to you, making a faster download), and “Line Choice” (DSL, 56k, 28.8 ect.)

Napster is a very good program for anyone who likes music. It’s simple and easy to use.
