The Bottom Line If you are going to purchase a good pair of soccer cleats then take the time to condition so that they last longer than your previous pairs.

Many people are under the impression that soccer shoes and cleats were meant to be constantly replenished year after year. While this is often the case it is not true. This does however depend on the quality of shoe you buy. If you purchase some of the cheaper synthetic cleats there is not much you can do to care for them except for washing the dirt off. If however, you purchase a higher quality shoe made out of leather or kangaroo leather there are some techniques you can use to make them last a while. After games or practices, especially if they are extremely muddy you should knock the mud off. After they are dry and there is only a slight residue of mud left on them you should take a damp cloth and wipe them off. Do not soak the cleats in water this is bad for the leather. If your cleats do get extremely wet, for example from a rainy game, place newspapers inside the cleats. Avoid sticking them in from of a heater or a dryer because this can cause the leather to crack. Just simply place them in a dry warm place and let them air-dry. After they are dry and all the dirt is removed, you should apply oil to them and work it into the shoe. This will replenish the leathers natural agents causing increased flexibility and a longer life.
