which is better dvd or vhs

The Bottom Line if you have the money then you should get dvd.

Dvd is getting more popular, and they predict that in a few years it will get kill off VHS all together. Here is a comparison.

VHS advantages.
If you’re looking for reasons to keep your VCR here is a few.

VHS is cheaper.
While the price of DVD aren't has expensive has they use to be, they still cost a lot more then VHS. expect to pay at least 4 dollars more for your standard DVD then your standard VHS.

VHS has older movies.
Everybody has a few movies that aren't on DVD yet; one of mine is Star Wars. While most movies will eventually be transferred and release on DVD, there will probably be a few that will never be released.

VHS can hook up to standard cable.
DVD players will need to have a audio video hook up in the back of your TV set in order to work. Before you say well I have audio video hook ups in the back of my VCR, so it's no big deal. It is a big deal, most DVD’s won't work if their hook up to a VCR like that.

DVD advantage.
Clear picture. A DVD that has been well made will have a picture that is a whole lot sharper, and clearer then a vhs. However there is nothing worse then one that hasn’t had any thought on it, in this case it can be grainy, have lines in it, and just awful to look at.

Wide Screen.
A lot of DVD are in wide screen format. I personally like this format, you can see more pictures, and it looks clear to. However if your a person who can't stand wide screen you might want to stay away from DVD until they start making them in standard.

extras
With DVD's you can get a whole lot of extras like. The trailer for the movie, audio commentary by the director or other members of cast or production, special features on how the movie was made, music videos and, much, much more. There is also special DVD ROM enhancements to that can give you anything from games to a script that you can print out on your computer.

What would I suggest.
If you have the money I would suggest DVD over VHS everyday. Every DVD is different in its quality and it's offerings to. I would suggest looking on the back of the DVD for info on its features before buying a DVD. If all else fails you should also look for reviews on that DVD on the web, dvd.ign.com is a good place for such reviews.
