Break your glove in the right way when you get it, and it'll be your friend out on the field.

Conventional Oven Okay for Baseball Gloves (Reply to this comment)
by leahhp
I have found personally, that using a conventional oven to break in a baseball glove has worked very efficiently. I have played softball almost all of my life and I've used many different types of gloves over the years. This technique hasn't failed me yet. However, i don't put the glove in just as is. I only have it in for about 4 minutes. i place it on top of a cookie sheet and keep it at a reasonable temperature. I also cover the glove completely, top to bottom, inside and out, with a special glove conditioner. Even with the hardest gloves you can find, it will come out as soft as ever without damaging it a bit. I have also used vaseline type products on gloves, however I've heard it's mostly for the purpose of keeping the glove clean and waterproof.

to those who added advice to my review. I need all the help I can get to keep the "totally awesome" status that my son has bestowed on me.

Not just any shaving cream (Reply to this comment)

Great idea for a review, but may I refine your overall solid advice just a hair, provide some tweakage, as it were?

Edge gel is best ... water is the enemy and there's less water in it because it is a concentrated gel. And rubber bands and bungee cords and rope leave marks ... use an Ace bandage to bind your softball in the pocket.

Ah, memories of . . . (Reply to this comment)

. . . the sand-lot games of my youth.

Back then we used saddle soap [vs shaving cream] and string [vs rubber bands]. But the effect was the same.

Great posting.

One hint for a great review (Reply to this comment)

Excellent review overall, I must admit. I have one addition and didn't think it warranted a new review. When you say to take a rubber band and put the ball in the glove to mold it, I'd then put it under a mattress between the boxspring and the mattress really where it will get under even more pressure to mold. This made this whole process even stronger in my experience. Thanks for the review.

Isn't it amazing the things a mother learns just through their children?

Thanks for a well-constructed review. This is a Monday morning "special" reminding us that baseball season is coming =)

No wonder you have so many trusting you. I just wanted to tell you that brought back fond childhood memories of when I dreamed of being a major leaguer. I still think sometimes when it rains how crushed I would be if I had left my glove outside in it. This was a good way to start a week. Thanks.
