because i am the photography chairman for our little washington county (ok) fair i am finding all of your camera and photography articles most helpful
folks expect me to KNOW something of photography ... all the chairman actually does is hang the photos and make sure they do not fall on the floor during the showing...
at least now I can give a coherent answer or two in response to questions!
plan to print your articles before our fair opens this season... 3 day run in august, heh
thanks m

Howard, you're simply amazing! Reviews like this are why you're on my WOT and going to stay there. Your camera and electronics reviews are among the best I've ever read anywhere, including pro magazines.

I have to say... (Reply to this comment)

Howard..I don't know anyone either here on Epinions or in person who knows so much about cameras. You are absolutely brilliant, and being a photographer myself, I can honestly say that I don't even know 1/10th of the stuff you know about cameras! You are definitely my source of inspiration..not to mention my source of reliable camera info!!
Thanks for all the great reviews...Though I'm never going to be able to decide what camera is going to replace my old one by the time I finish reading all your wonderful reviews!

The D30 successor (Reply to this comment)
by viper1963
Howard, I am holding out for a new Canon digital camera that is a competitor of Nikon's D1X. Supposedly this model should be out by the summer.
I have used the D30 to shoot Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns games. I was quite impressed to say the least.
Sadly, Canon introduced this camera a little too late. Nikon blew them away when they introduced the Nikon D1. The D30 is based upon an older DCS2000 concept.
Great review!

My understanding is that it is OK to "smoke the competition" as long as you don't inhale. As for the D30 it is aimed straight at the serious-advanced amateur/part time pro market. Thanks for your comment. Howard

Impressive review (Reply to this comment)

I just have one question, is it legal to "smoke the competition"
as your title indicates? Or is it okay if you don't inhale. Inquiring
minds want to know.
Seriously, this is a beautifully written, well
thought out review, and I'm certain helpful to
many consumers who really want the right camera
for their needs. I wasn't sure if you thought
this was appropriate for just anyone or strictly
for the pros.

Wonderful review! (Reply to this comment)

As always, your camera review was fantastic. My boyfriend is a serious photographer, and I'm constantly referring him to your reviews. I know he's trying to figure out which digital camera to purchase with his next couple paychecks, so this one's being referred too. Thanks bunches!
