In Gateway Country do People Rule?
by bonniesayers | Mar 26 '01
The warranty does not last long and there are fees related to calling for help with technical problems with a Gateway computer. The finance charges are astronomical!!

One heckuva great computer... not to bite the dust 'til March 14, 20001. (LOL -- just pointing out your minor typo.)

Seriously, this is a great review. My daughter has had a Gateway for about three years and loves it, despite its now relatively glacial 350 MHz processor speed.

Gee - I am glad I am not the only one who has had computer problems like this!! By the way, I could not make it to LA with my kids. Their grandparents took them and they stayed at Hermosa Beach at the Sea Sprite. They had had a blast!!A favorite part of their vacation was rollerblading on the sidewalk along the beach. They were there from 3/10 for a week. They went to Disneyland, California Adventure, Universal Studios. From there they rented a van the last 3 days and went to Las Vegas. My son did not do well on top of the Stratosphere!! I wish my husband and I could have gone to your sunny side of the US but we enjoyed our vacation at home too without the kids!!

Great review.

Pretty much goes along with every thing I've ever heard -- but never experienced -- about Gateway...

My two IBMs -- laptop and desktop -- have worked flawlessly for a combined 10 years...

By the way, if my IBMs last as long as your newest Gateway -- March 14, 20001 -- then I'll be beyond thrilled. LOL

Regards,
Sam

I certainly never heard of this one.

I better alert my friend in NJ as she got a Gateway last month and is remarking how great it is.

Thank you for a well-written helpful review.

I too had a gateway astro and I had problems with the modem not working correctly....... lucky all I had to do was take it back to "rent way" and then I moved up to the gateway step up computer and so far I love this one I will never recommend a Astro to anyone else....... I hope things go ok for you....... One good thing about renting a pc is you don't have to pay to fix it LOL..... just get a new one.

Hi there Bonnie! I was hoping to never hear the words "Gateway Astro" ever again. I bought mine, had to take it into a Gateway Country store one week later because of a faulty modem, was then told the computer was fixed, brought it back same problem. I also had problems with the recovery disk and so forth, as you described. I sent my Astro back to Gateway within the 30 days for a partial refund. Gateway forced me to pay shipping both ways, I lost $120 on the deal plus all the hassle.

I will never do business with Gateway again, from here it'll be HP and possibly Dell.

Great article, tsguy.

I helped two friends while in Texas who got Gateway computers for Christmas. Neither of them has any idea of even how to turn it on. We got along just fine and at lest they were getting their e-mail and replying to them before I left.

Hope your Gateway will be up and running soon.

Not very helpful, I was recently given a number by Gateway to call for help on a microsoft software issue and I was told there would be a $35.00 fee, Just to make the call. I declined and after days was able to correct the problem myself. My computer was only six months old then. My next computer will be a Dell!
