The Bottom Line I Think it's better that the kids interact with a great program than be glued to the tv like couch potatoes.
I home school my 5 year old, and I have a four year old and and a one year old sometimes its hard to have them watch something on tv that they would agree with. During the daytime they could watch something either on NickJr. or PBS. MY one year old likes Barney and Sesame Street but the other two think they have out grown those programs. They seem to like more of the programing shown on NickJr. They like Blues Clues and Dora The Explorer. I think these two shows are more interactive. They allow the children to yell back at the television. Dora The Explorer is a more recent show. Its about a little girl that goes on adventures with her best friend Boots (he is a monkee). She has other friends who speak spanish. They teach kids how to say colors and other things in spanish. My daughter told me she learned how to say blue in spanish "azul" and big,"grande". Besides teaching another language she allows time for the kids to answer, for example when she says do you see swiper who is a sly fox that tries to swip clues, she waits about two or three seconds as if she is waiting for an answer then she repeats the answer sometimes wrong so that the kids could yell back. Once I thought my kids were arguing with each other, but actually they were yelling out the answer so that Dora can hear them. Dora The Explorer also has the kids thinking that when they answer that a computer is clicking in the answer, because a cursor shows up on the screen. There is music and singing,a back pack that carries all her exploring material, the back pack talks and sings in Inglish and spanish. The program airs Monday thru Friday at 11:00 AM on NickJr. and on Saturdays on CBS in the morning. You can't miss Dora's big brown eyes. |
