The Store:
I was attracted to overstock.com because of the low prices they had. Particularly I was looking for a book and it was about $5 cheaper here then it was anywhere else. Had no problem finding what I wanted or registering. Overall the web site is really well designed; you can easily navigate around and find exactly what you are looking for very quickly.
The Order:
Placing an order was not a problem at all, simple quick form to fill out and then your order was ready. Shipping costs were reasonable $1.40 for one item.
The Wait:
I had placed this order on Oct 27th; I was having it shipped to my sister for her birthday on Nov 3rd. I figured I had placed the order a little late, so it may be a day or two late. Well as of today November 5th, they have yet to ship my order from the warehouse.
Customer Service:
Automated phone systems are not your friend; Overstock.com particularly has a retarded phone system. They have all these different options and ask you to put in your order number and stuff. Then no matter what option you take, you still get to the same person most of the time (I talked to the same person twice when I pushed in Place a New Order and Track Your Order), and after typing in my invoice number twice, the customer service people still have to ask for it again!
But is a person any better then an automated machine... No not really, the responses I received to my inquiry of "When are you planning on shipping my order" ranged from, "That's a good questions" to "I'll e-mail the warehouse, they'll get back to you in 4-6 business days", to my favorite response "Well while your waiting we offer lovely feather comforters in our home department, want to place an order for one of those?"
Overall:
If I had no desire to own the item that I am purchasing right away (even though they charge you the second your order is placed) and don't mind waiting, hmmm well I don't really know how long because it's been a week and a half for a product that was "IN-STOCK", then sure I might order from them again. Otherwise I am very dissatisfied.
Follow-Up:
After much hassle I got a hold of some one that told me my order shipped. It did get to my sister about a week after I expected. On a side note, today the 21st of November, I recieved an e-mail saying it was shipped. Yes I did place the order on October 27th, Yes the item has allready been recieved, but they final confirmed that it was shipped, thats nice.
