Pros: Simple, entertaining and functional.
Cons: Poor design for the visor mount clip.
The Bottom Line: For the sub-$150 price, it's a cool addition to my collection of gadgets!

| propellerhead's Full Review: Beltronics BEL 870 Radar Detector |
The buttons and functions are simple to use. The volume is controlled by pressing and holding the power button. Kinda weird at first, but once you have the volume set, you don't need to fiddle with it at all. I definitely prefer the electronic power/volume switch to those mechanical thumbwheel ones. Electrical switches almost generally outlast mechanical ones.
The visor clip sucks. It is designed to clip onto the front edge of the visor in its parked position. The visors in my truck sit about 2 inches from the edge of the headliner. If I use the visor clip, the entire detector would be hidden. It would be better if the clip could be turned around. I could have clipped it to the rear edge of the visor and moved the visor to adjust the angle. I prefer the suction cup mount anyway. I placed the detector near the dashboard to avoid having the wire dangling. This also lets me remove and hide the unit quicker in case I get pulled over. (I hope that never happens!)
As far as sensitivity, I have no scientific nor opinionated basis. I did not conduct any tests. I only bought this because I love gadgets, and I've always wanted a radar detector. It seemed cool to have one. I've outgrown speeding and I don't really need the police radar warning.
