I bought this unit because I had trouble finding anything else on line. I had to replace an old (GE?) model that quit after many years of reliable work.
With my old model, I just removed the bucket and let the water drip directly into the sump drain in the corner of the basement. With this new Whirlpool unit, I cannot do that. First, there is an interlock switch, so the unit will not run without the bucket in place. There's no point in bypassing the interlock because the unit is C shaped, and has a solid metal base that would just catch all the drip water, causing it to rust eventually.
So, you have to use the drain hose in the bucket. Except that it is a cheap molded plastic thing that does not seal well to a garden hose, so mine dripped on the floor and caused my basement to be damp until I applied a liberal amount of pipe tape to stop the leak. Even then, the drain is half way up the bucket, instead of at the bottom, so there is always a half full bucket of stagnant water sitting around in the basement.
If I knew then, what I know now, I would have looked harder for another model.
