I ordered a phone online on 11/4, with the response that "Your order will ship in 3-5 days".
They hit my debit card 2x for $1 each time.
I got an email from them on 11/8 stating: "Thank you for choosing AT&T Wireless as your wireless communications provider. We apologize that due to overwhelming demand the shipment of your order has been delayed. Please remember, your credit card will not be charged until your order is shipped."
I'd been checking their online order status information system daily. Tonight my status changed from pending to "On hold per customer request." Say what? Checked again 45 mins later, still on hold.
On hold is a phrase I came to know all too well over the next 1.5 hours. I called them. *STUPID ME*. After sitting on hold for 10 minutes listening to the "your call is important to us, please continue to hold" every 3-5 seconds, I suddenly started hearing hold music. I have that hold music permanently etched in my brain now. I sat on hold another 1 hour and 20 minutes after that, with "average hold time today is 10 minutes" playing in my ear every 30 seconds.
When they *FINALLY* answered the customer service rep acted like he didn't know what was wrong. The phrase "uhm... err... sh**... uhm... uhm... uhm... err... uhm..." was used several times. Then he finally said "well our system just came back up a few minutes ago. Wait, this is a Go Phone? I'm not sure what's wrong with your order." Me: "OK?"
Him: "Well, your order should ship by the end of this week (11/15)" 11 days after I ordered my phone, with free overnight shipping. He didn't give me a chance to respond or to cancel my order. He said thanks for calling, and hung up.
I'm tempted to go buy the phone in the store and then have my debit card stop payment on them, but they have a deal where you get the rebate instantly if you order online vs. having to send it in and wait. I'm also tempted to give up on them entirely. I like the fact that they have a cheap color phone without a contract though.
