| stevesilmer's Full Review: Lexmark Color JetPrinter Z605 Ink-jet Printer |
I got the Z605 printer a few weeks ago at Target for $49. I bought it because I was looking for something to replacement my Z51 Lexmark printer, which has been a workhorse for a few years. I went with this one because of the price and because it didn't come with "starter" ink cartridges. This is a definite plus. To sweeten the deal, it came with 10 sheets of 8x11 Kodak photograph paper, and 20 sheets of 4x6 Kodak Softgloss paper.
The performance of the printer is pretty good. If you're printing photographs you'll get okay results. Regular text is just what you'd expect. Crisp and clean. The printer is relatively fast, but not in its highest quality mode. Then it really takes a long time to print.
Also worthy of note is that the drivers for this printer are very nice. Complete with poster printing (printing something large across many sheets of paper) and other features that typical printer drivers don't have. The dialog boxes have helpful wizards to get everything setup right.
The only other thing I would mention here is that it makes clunking noises that make it sound cheap or like it could break down at any moment. That doesn't seem to be the case, but they are disconcerting.
