Great Review! (Reply to this comment)
by Caprig
As usual, you did a through job!
I am glad to know that there is an ADOBE compromise, for those people that always ask me about ADOBE and can not afford PHOTOSHOP.
I am a COREL woman, myself, but if you want anything reliable for scanning in, PHOTOSHOP is better.
I was blessed enough to be able to get PHOTOSHOP on a really good deal with a scanner a long time ago, so I can go between the two.
Excellent review, Brenda.

Outstanding as always... (Reply to this comment)

I am in need of a graphics program to replace my various shareware programs, and have always love Photoshop, but the cost is too high to justify. So this seems like it might be just the compromise I am looking for. Thanks Brenda!!!

I'm blessed to have PhotoShop at my office. So, the expense (and upgrades) are dealt with by my company. I just kick back and use this wonderful application. . .

Layers, Layers and More Layers (Reply to this comment)
by elvisdo
Oh Designing Wonder,
You are correct in saying that without layers, we graphic designers would pull all our hair out of our head and wither away. I've been using Photoshop for 6 years now and I'm still nowhere close to figuring out every doohickey and whatchamacallits on this program. And as for being the industry's standard, don't I ever know it. I live it everyday.
Now if I can only convert you to using a Mac. ;)

Sometimes it's hard to be extravagant (Reply to this comment)
by jrk
For years I lusted after Adobe Photoshop, but as you observed, it's difficult to justify the hefty purchase price for home dabbling. I recently settled for Corel 9 Photo & Paintshop and it seems to do all the things you described for Elements. For most folks similarly shy or guilty about extravagances, these two programs probably provide just about all the bells & whistles any normal user would need.
If I didn't already feel comfortable with Corel, I'd be ordering Elements just on the basis of your review. Great job!

Wonderful Review! (Reply to this comment)

I own a copy of Photoshop 5.0 and it is a useful product! Instead of upgrading to 6.0, I'll take a look at their Elements version and decide which one to purchase. Thanks for your always informative reviews..have I not said to you already that you are one FANTASTIC writer?
