| Dunkjam's Full Review: Whirlpool Gold Microwave Oven/Hood Combination |
We love our Whirlpool Microwave Oven, It cooks evenly and is very easy to use. We purchased our Whirlpool Microwave Oven ( Model MH7130XEB-1) 9/21/97 at National TV and Appliance for $450.00 and $30.00 for the installation. We have been using it for over three years without any problems. The control panel features are easy to use with just a simple touch to the Command and Number Pads. The unit has an output power of 900 watts.
This microwave oven has many unique features that really makes cooking fun! Some of these features include a control panel with multiple functions, a fan and cooktop light switches, two position bi-level cooking rack, a door safety lock system which prevents the microwave from working until the door is securely closed. It has a vent grille since it was installed above our cook top. The control panel also comes with a cooking guide, all you need to do is push button like vegetables, then it asks you to enter the amounts. If you enter 2 cups, it will automatically set the correct cooking time for you. It has never overcooked any food that we have entered the correct portion.
Control Panel
The control panel has a digital clock display that tells you the time of day, cooking time settings, and cooking functions selected. There is a reheat touchpad to use to warm your serving plates or reheat soups, baked goods, etc. The defrost touchpad has a three stage defrost cycle. You touch the defrost pad once for meat, twice for poultry and three times for fish. Then you wait four seconds and enter the weight of the food in pounds and tenths of a pound. Then you start oven and an alarm will prompt you to turn the food over. It has a lot of preset modes that are labeled on the touchpad as popcorn, beverage, baked potato, vegetable, frozen entree, warm hold, cook time, cook power, add minute, number pads, clock, timer set, timer off, Start/Enter, Off/Cancel, turntable off, light control and fan control.
The reason the bilevel cooking rack is so important is that it allows you to put more than one container in at the same time. If you are not using this metal rack, do not store it in the microwave oven. The rack can cause arcing and damage to the oven. Do not use this rack with a browning dish. And make sure you use oven mitts when you remove items from the microwave.
This microwave oven comes with an instructional booklet. If you have any problems deciding what power to cook on, just look it up in this book. When cleaning your microwave, use warm sudsy water and a sponge or soft cloth. Rinse well with clean water, making sure that you keep the door and the oven frame areas cleaned often. For the exterior surface, I just use Windex glass cleaner on a paper towel. Never use an abrasive cleanser or harsh cloths since they can damage the control panel and the interior and exterior oven surfaces. The turntable and its support can both be cleaned in the dishwasher!
The filters on this microwave should be cleaned at least once a month. They are easily removed and can be cleaned by simply soaking the filters in hot water using a mild detergent. Rinse well and shake filters dry before putting them back in place. They recommend that for your personal safety, you turn off the electric power at the main power supply before removing filters. I must admit that I do not do this. Since we have a hood with our microwave, the charcoal filter must be replaced every six to twelve months. They have step by step instructions and pictures to show you how to remove the filters and how to change the lights.
Our microwave came with a one year warranty from the date of purchase. There is also a limited four year warranty for replacement of the magnetron tube on the microwave ovens if defective in materials or workmanship. There is also a Consumer Assistance Center telephone number if you need assistance or service.
