Korn: Here to Stay.

The Bottom Line Korn, one of Metal's best bands, is here to stay. Period.

Since no one else has chosen to write in this category, I feel the need to mark my territory and take this category as my own, so this will be one of many opinions I will write concerning Metal Music, specifically analyzing bands that I feel deserve the attention, either positively or negatively. This is the perfect category to do this. You don't have to agree with me, and I'm definitely not trying to persuade you; I'm merely staying my opinion as a Metal Fan.

Korn will be the first to receive my blessing. Of all of the nu-metal bands to break onto the scene, it seems as though Korn has been the most controversial of all. Whether it's the argument of what "category" they fit into, their outrageous personal lifestyles, or their record label ELEMENTREE RECORDS, there's always something more to this band. But is that all there is to them? No, this band is far deeper than what public opinion puts on them.

Why is Korn a great band? Because they refuse to put a limit on their abilities. With their album ISSUES, they proved once again that they don't care what the mass wants; Korn will make music however THEY want to. ISSUES came out at a time when rap-rock was at its peak, following the success of FOLLOW THE LEADER, which incorporated many hip-hop elements and was their best-selling record.

But by looking at all of Korn's records, it's easy to see that Korn refuses to overuse what works well; instead, they forge ahead on every new record to make new things that work well. It's gutsy, and it has cost them the "Preppy" following that tagged along for FOLLOW THE LEADER, but now it has become clear that Korn has reached a cult status among their fans by staying true to their music and themselves. Jon Davis writes songs based on his own experiences and the band works hard to differentiate their music from their previous efforts.

Are they rap-rock? No. In fact, how DARE someone put them in the same category of RAGE and LIMP BIZKIT. Korn is about as much like RAGE as DMX is like Elvis. Have they incorporated some hip-hop elements? Yes, especially in FOLLOW THE LEADER and LIFE IS PEACHY. But their newer works suggest that Korn has finally found their own style and no longer can be catergorized with any other band.

Why is Korn a Major Performer? Because this is the future of metal. It doesn't lie within acts such as Lincoln Park, who will be gone within a couple of years. Whether or not you like them, Korn has built a solid following and proved that they will be around for a long time.
