Pros:Easy to use software that won't mess up your computer.
Cons:Can't think of a one!
The Bottom Line: Within the next five years, this product may put H&R Block out of business. You really got to try this product!
The first secret I am going to share with you is where to buy Turbo Tax and save you almost 50% on the retail price other places charge.
Sure you can buy this software at any electronics store like Best Buy or even a bookstore like Barnes & Noble or even an online place like Amazon.com, but where did the Secret Shopper go to buy, and save 50% off the retail price? Answer: Wal-Mart.
I paid $17 for the basic version and believe it or not, that $17 is also deductible on my taxes! Yep! It goes under processing fees and expenses used in filing your taxes.
I have been using Turbo Tax now for three years and this year was the easiest with the software. The "interview" process has been greatly improved and they have even combined a lot of questions on the same page and based on your answers it will walk you through only those parts in which you check the box to. I completed my taxes in less than two hours, which was about two hours less than last year using the software.
The only part of the software I did not like was the Home Office deduction portion. Since my spouse and I operate three home businesses, it was a little difficult using the Unlink portion of the software. Whatever you do, do not hit DELETE when in the Home Office area, you will delete ALL Home Office information in regards to your mortgage interest and such.
I also liked the way that in this version I was not forced to view videos and my form as it was being created. This cut down on the time it took me to actually do my taxes because I did not have to sit through a lot of videos to continue.
Also the navigation has been greatly improved so I could zoom directly to a detailed part of my return, the prior versions would take you to the start of that section only.
Another great feature that cut down on my preparation time was importing my charity information from Quicken. Since we use Quicken and set the categories up properly, Turbo Tax was able to import and total everything from the prior year! It was wonderful!
I'd say the only thing I did not like was the Online Help. It is available and greatly designed, but be warned, it will cost you around $1 - $3 per tax question.
Of course if you are not completely satisfied with the software, they offer a 60-Day, Unconditional, Money-back Guarantee. Most computer places do not accept returns on software that is already opened, Turbo Tax does.
