We bought the Vaporeze after a winter of having to fill & clean my daughter's vaporizer for one winter season. Although we didn't use the regular vaporizer much, it was a chore to fill the awkward water tank & having to clean it when it was used.
Vaporeze solved those problems completely. It is a small unit that can fit easily anywhere in a room, particularly in an active toddler's room where a traditional vaporizer filled with water would not last long undisturbed, believe me! This unit can fit up and out of the way on a shelf.
It is made of hard plastic & had an inline switch on the cord. On top of the unit is a small "basket" that lifts up high enough for you to put in a menthol/mint soaked pad. You then just close the basket and adjust the level of vaporizing from low, medium to high with just a push in either direction.
When switched on, there's an orange light (probably about as bright as a night light 4 watts). Since I don't want my daughther sleeping with a nightlight in her room, this was a drawback for me, but others may appreciate that feature. However, it was not enough to deter me from using it when my daughter really needs it. In fact, she's using it now because she has had a cold for a few days and it helps her breath.
She had been coughing all night earlier this week & the next night when we used the Vaporeze, her coughing was DRAMATICALLY decreased. We had given her cough medicine too, but the coughing stopped way before the medicine could have kicked in. So, I can safely say that I think that the Vaporizer helped a lot.
I haven't used the battery feature yet, but I'm rating it as Excellent, because it's so small and noiseless that it's hard to imagine it being a battery hog. If you need specifics on this from someone who knows for sure, please read other opinions as well!
We like to put it on HIGH at first & then turn it to low or medium when the air in her room doesn't need as much vaporizing. You'll note a definite difference when you walk in the room after using this.
The refills can get pretty expensive if you plan to use it every night. We don't use it every night, so the refill price isn't a problem. Even if we did, we are what I'd call "lazy germ freaks" & would prefer to spend the money for the refills rather than having to clean, descale, and refill and traditional vaporizer day in and day out. I'd also be concerned that I haven't cleaned a regular vaporizer enough & am distributing mold into my child's air. Vaporeze to the rescue. No water, no mold, no mess, no worries. Works great.
Another really great advantage to the Vaporeze is that it makes absolutely no noise whatsoever. Our other vaporizer made some hissing noises & the water occasionally "glugged" when the water supply was getting lower. If your baby is a light sleeper & notices every little bump and creak, then this noiseless machine will help.
