Re: I can't believe they are still in business!!!!! (Reply to this comment)

Wow. I am in the middle of the very same experience and I only found this (and other uncomfortably similar comments and complaints on other websites) while I was on hold (for over 15 minutes) with HomeClick. I would never have purchased from HomeClick had I read these comments first and I'm sorry that I didn't do more research before buying. Generally, my on line shopping experiences have been good or at least reputable.
HomeClick provides ZERO customer service, misleading information regarding deliveries and has second rate/sloppy business practices. At the moment I am trying to return a soap dish holder that was incorrectly placed in an opened toilet paper holder box. Now over one week after contacting them, I have been on the phone (on hold really) for more than 40 minutes and still am waiting for authorization to correct THEIR mistake. But worse, I placed a larger order for toilets that has already been delayed in shipping (without being notified of the delay). I fear that they won't arrive for months - and placed the order believing they would ship within a week or so as stated on the website. What a nightmare....

I cannot find a single good thing to say about this company. I ordered a Fire Pit kit from them on June 16th. The web site showed it was in stock and would ship in 5-7 days (By the way... It still does) I was charged immediately so I thought that this was a good sign. 3 weeks went by and I started getting annoyed. I called several times and was told it would ship the next day(obviosly a lie). A week after my last call I finally got an e-mail telling me that it had shipped. After 6 weeks had gone by from my original order I had the product and was installing it. I soon found out that the product that had been sent to me had been previously used and was actually severly damaged (even though it had several inspected by stickers). I called and tried to arrange a replacement. This took over a week for someone to e-mail me as this company does nothing over the phone. I promptly sent the old one back and waited for the replacement. The old one was received on 8-7-08 and now 1 month later I'm still waiting. Every time I call I'm told that the product is on backorder and expected to arrive in 5-7 days... I'm giving this company 1 more week before I get my credit card company involved. At this point my entire summer is gone and I wasted almost $1000 on nothing!!!! I have asked several times for a supervisor to call me or talk to me and each time I have been denied.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

Let me first point out to you that the time that you placed the order the item was shipped through UPS. This has NOTHING to do with Homeclick.com. Til this day; shipping companies still provide a short window of time for delivery. They also have a lot of deliveries to do in your area. I even have that sort of service through sites like Amazon.com, Walmart and Overstock.com. Companies like those and Homeclick.com have no control of the local shipper policies. Their job is to get it shipped out to you. You are forewarned on our website that we do not own our own shipping company, we hire shippers to send the products out to you. I would have contacted the local shipping department and asked why soemthing so heavy shipped out without a dolly or a pallet. That is not standard practice.
A lot of the products are special ordered on the site. The manufacturer's require full paymen on the products or they will not release the product. That being said, the cards are charged in full when the order is placed. If you haven't noticed that homeclick.com is affiliated with BBB.org online reliability program which forces Homeclick to make wise decisions both business wise and customer wise. A lot of websites charge your card in full. Amazon.com/target/walmart (a fortune 100 company) I know my card is charged when I placed orders and I am an average every-day consumer. Some other companies may not charge immediately because they stock their products. Homeclick actually doesn't stock a whole lot of products.
When it comes to restocking fees sometimes they can actually waive the fees. If you were to place an order and get it then say "hey this item doesn't work with my fixtures" you ordered it! It isn't homeclick's fault. Therefore, you are charged a restocking fee on top of that the manufacturer charges a restocking fee. Normally they take under consideration of some circumstances in lets say the website is wrong and you get the wrong item, then you should get it returned with no hassel. Homeclick.com is not a scam.
You have a choice whether or not you want to be added to their email notification system. You checked the box, you get the emails.
I am sorry you went through a hard time. Homeclick has come a long way since 2003.

Customer Service STUPIDITY = HASSLE (Reply to this comment)

A toilet tank cover was defective after opening. A day later an email was sent with zero response. A few days later when contacted via phone attempting to just get a cover replaced and not ship the entire 125 lb toilet I was told after 20 minutes they would try. After 10+ days with no response I sent a fax requesting it be taken care of asap. 10 more days & no response yet I made another phone call and was told they were waiting for me to give them a serial number. How was I to know that??? When I looked for the s/n where they told me and I found multiple numbers and made a call back. This time I was told the s/n had to begin with letter "s" Nothing I had began with "s" so no help. Frustrated I said I wanted to return everything and was then put on hold for 15 minutes. I later contacted Kohler and all they needed was the model and color to ship the cover at no cost. They also said they do not put serial numbers on toilets. PURE IDIOTS AT HOMECLICK = HASSLE

So I'm about to make a purchase here, and I notice that they offer a 3-day return policy now, rather than the onerous refusal-upon-delivery they used to require. It probably has to do with the fact that enough people complained about the situation you described - which is in fact, unreasonable.
Thanks for the spot-on review.

Actually I do hold Homeclick accountable for the freight companies they contract with. They picked the freight company, not me. And I bought items from them based on their representations regarding shipping. If I had known how many lost hours I would have had with my purchase through homeclick, I would have made my purchases through another vendor where I would have had less headaches.
Additionally, I don't think I am on a pedastal for expecting a freight company to show up in the four hour window of their choosing. That is customer service at a bare minimum. I would also expect, at a bare minimum, that they speak to me in a polite tone. Frankly, I don't think they should stay in business when there are so many more reputable companies out there.
Lastly, if homeclick is going to tie their return policy to the freight company's performance, they should make sure the freight company is performing.
Your comments are off the mark - let me guess - you work for the freight company.

A Little Off Center (Reply to this comment)

Would you like some cheese to go with that whine? You didn't know that heavy items are sent by freight? You didn't know that freight is to your curb unless you contract otherwise? You blame the homeclick.com for problems with the freight company? You take issue with their return policy when, if they did not state it that way, people would be shipping things back to them in paper bags. You find it a problem to dispose of packing material? Get real and get down off your pedestal.
